Just goes to show that all the people who are calling Spurs a 1 man team are clueless about football. Bale did nothing today apart from score an easy goal. It's all about the team effort, and we showed today that we have the balls to get the results when needed.

When people say 1 man team obviously they're saying it rather tongue in cheek, obviously no goal keeper for example means people taking shots from the half way line :p that said just like Liverpool are with Suarez Spurs are massively reliant on Bale more so than any other player and one result against Arsenal (in which Bale did score) doesn't change that.

Ok, they aren't a one man team, its Bale and Vermaelen, 2 man team :p

EDIT:- anyone posting in here that isn't watching Sociedad vs Betis damn well should be, awesome end to end game.

vertonghen was our best player today. parker looked better in small parts but he really has gone off the boil. walker and BAE kept their cool, even with questionable positioning at times. other than the goal, lennon was kept quiet.

massive props to dawson. passion that we needed for that game and it shone.

North London derbies are very strange but entertaining games these days, aren't they? I thought Spurs were dreadful in the first half but they still somehow managed to score two goals. How many shots did they have in the first half? It couldn't have been many more than those two. Arsenal dominated and yet didn't seem to create much.

The second half was way more open. It really could have gone either way but again Arsenal didn't create many solid opportunities. RvP probably won't have destroyed Spurs. At least Wenger's substitutions were early and adventurous.

I thought Spurs' full-backs were very impressive. I know there's not much love for Assou-Ekotto on here but I think that he is Spurs' most underrated player. He set up Bale's chance in the second half and his long passes were the beginning of most of Spurs' breaks late on. Walker was also impressive and showed that he's strong as well as pacey.

Sigurðsson did well too. Lots of energy and was disciplined in the defense. I think virtually every Spurs fan would have preferred Holtby but obviously AVB thought that this wasn't the game for him.

Adebayor was woeful yet again. I think he must have been born offside. Defoe held the ball up a lot more effectively when he came on. I hope Dembele isn't serious hurt. He's the only defensively-minded player that Spurs have who can also play football.

Bookies now reckon that Spurs have an 85% chance of a top 4 finish. I guess St. Totteringham's Day might have to be cancelled this year...

I agree with you on all of that. I love BAE too and always have. He is so laid back he is horizontal and we appreciate that calm as a team when we are under the cosh. Well done AVB for admitting he was wrong with awesome Dawson and we'll done Dawson for having the stomach to show what he is worth. He deserves to be club captain.

Arsenal had no balance; loads of movement up to the last third and no spear head. We were the same but got some end product. Siggy was poor but improved, I hope he keeps improving.

Lloris was excellent today he is such a boost for our defence.

Arsenal were just garbage on the ball, Wilshere and Santi couldn't pick a pass to save their lives, Giroud has the touch of a drunken Jimmy Saville and Walcott just didn't do... anything? Despite being the world's 2nd fastest man and Spurs playing an obscenely high line.

Yup, how on earth can people rate Walcott when he's fast but makes such poor runs, is so lazy and pointless and rubbish as an actual winger. Jenkinson offered massively more threat down the right, put in better crosses, moved more, passed better and did some defending, walcott did nothing.

Bale, Lennon, they all made runs in on goal, Walcott, did nothing, he doesn't show himself for the ball, he doesn't make intelligent runs and doesn't get involved.

Giroud, his movement his good, he often starts in the right area but he often makes the wrong choice straight afterwards if he actually keeps the ball, scuffed shots, poor passes, deciding to run into a corner with no support. His run of really good games was against weaker teams, and against better teams he's looked a bit crap.

However he wasn't the biggest problem today, not even slightly. Defensively, well, same old Arsenal, offensively.... Podolski is one of our best players, so drop him obviously, play Santi out wide where he's been a bit rubbish, push Ramsey into the middle so his uselessness is even more harmful to the team.

Wilshire didn't have a great game, but with Arteta having a bad game, Ramsey being rubbish, Giroud screwing everything up and Santi rarely involved centrally he had no one to work with, that isn't the only reason, players have poor games, Messi's had two woeful games recently, that was one of maybe two poorer games Wilshire has had.

Don't forget that he's been barely rested, played for England and coming back from a huge lay off due to injury. Wenger said he'd rest him WHEN he was tired, you're supposed to rest a player to prevent tiredness, when you're tired in terms of as an athlete, you're already run down, more injury prone and performing badly. Instead he came back into the team and Wenger has run him into the ground, he's looking tired, only a matter of time till he's reinjured.

Notice that Diaby got fit and has played till he was reinjured, Sagna, the same, Wenger does this every single time, a "first teamer" gets fit, gets played, doesn't get rested, gets injured and Wenger never, ever learns.

Had we started Podolski and Santi in the middle we'd have been better today, no where near sure about Monreal, honestly I think he was more of a panic buy than people will admit, just because they've looked at him in summer doesn't mean they didn't panic and buy the only person they've looked at before.

I heard arsenals defence helped spurs put big time.

Not seen the game yet but seems arsenal where rubbish again. Top 4 all but gone IMO

Least inspiring panel on MotD2 ever. We've got Hartson who'll bum anyone and anything that's Welsh, Sol sitting there looking confused as to why he's even there (how can someone talk so much but say so little) and Hansen moaning about defending :o

Lolz anyone watching MLS, Silvestre just pinged a backpass into the keeper from close range (when defending a set piece...), keeper started to pick it up and then let go, tap in for the striker.
edit: 23mins gone, 2 goals Silvestre has given NY so far...

Always gives me pleasure hearing Pulis talk about fouls that don't go his way :D

Yup, I mean crouch basically knocked out Reid(iirc), there was a certain penalty for Diame that wasn't given, Nzonzi did something nasty I believe and, well, the fact that Stoke had so little go against them by half time was a miracle, then one or two things didn't go their way in the second half. Only one team has the right to feel aggrieved because of bad decisiosn and it isn't Stoke... and it never will be :p

Arsenal weren't that bad, just not that good, Spurs were a bit cack realistically except for the goals and 1 or 2 other golden chances. Up the other end it was a mix of Walcott/Giroud/Santi being a useless front three and Spurs defending quite well which kept it to only one conceded. Neither team seemed to do an awful lot in midfield, neither midfield "won" the game over the other, neither team was very effective, more terrible defensive mistakes cost us the two goals... well thats not quite fair, had our defenders done the right thing they may have scored both of them still. It would just have been nice to see Vermaelen and Monreal being beaten on pure ability than pure stupidity. Arsenal should have done much better for both goals and their third best chance, no question.

Meh, more I think about it I just think both teams were a bit ****.

Just seen Kagawa's stats from Saturday:

3 shots
3 goals
76 passes (92.1% accuracy)
100% Tackles completed

Pretty impressive!

He's an extremely good player. He can only improve.

I can easily understand why he'll take a while getting settled. Language is always an issue in cases like this, but none more so than Japanese, the entire character set is different! He did a brief interview in English though if people saw that, so he's making some progress.

I saw him play numerous times for Dortmund and his attacking play for them was seamless. He's rapid, has great movement and is an excellent passer. He's very composed usually as well, as we saw. He's just an excellent all-round central attacking midfielder. I don't think he's as good on the wings but he can make that work too, coming inside and so forth like David Silva. Most people who watched the German league when he was at Dortmund said he was arguably their best player, and this is in a side with no shortage of excellent young players, Mario Gotze being one.

I know certain people just wrote him off, but they're foolish. We have to remember he's been injured too, that messes up any player. There's also the fact we don't usually play someone in the position he's accustomed to either.

I still think he needs to be starting in the centre, everything impressive he did (except that great through ball for Rooney) was from the centre, he just finds space and his passing is excellent.
