Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20 - 26th December 2013]

Good result for City and Liverpool shouldn't take anything negative from the game apart from some terrible finishing. I noticed Aspas had his full name on his shirt. I can only assume it was to remind people who he is! Loan him back to Spain and get another striker in Brendan!

Oh yes, some terrible decisions by the officials. Some blatant fouls, a terrible offside decision and a yellow that wasn't.

Absolutely made up with that performance. We were more than a match for City tonight and it was only one tame effort in front of goal from Coutinho and a mistake from Mignolet that cost us the win. If we play like that against Chelsea we can beat them.

Might've lost but there's more positives to take from that game than our win against Cardiff last week.

Bit of a strange game that one, some great passages of play but it so easily could have gone either way. Some of the decisions were terrible from the officials too.

Liverpool should have won that easily what with the disallowed goal and 2-3 sitters they failed to put away... but then on the other hand Skyrtel was lucky not to give away about 5 penalties. :p

I think a draw would have been a fair result but it's the sign of champions to win when you're not playing well. ;)

I'd be worried if I was Skyrtel in future matches, nearly every Premiership referee has probably just been watching 90mins of BT Sports point out his holding at every corner.

Our general performance was good but we need to be more clinical in attack and smarter in defense.

We were leaving ourselves far too exposed towards the end of the first half and City were looking just as likely as hitting us on the break as we were them. Cissokho was either getting caught up field or left 2 on 1 time and again, and we should have definitely looked at switching Coutinho with Henderson for the last 10 mins of the half.

As I mentioned after the Spurs game, the balance of this side is good but in close games I don't think we've got enough individuals that can decide these games. Henderson, Allen, Coutinho and Sterling have got to up their goals output.

Rodgers has been very critical of the officials in his post match comments and he's not wrong. Even if you ignore the shocking offside call, how many times did Kompany and Lescott go through the back of or take Suarez out off the ball without so much as a free-kick?

On the flip side Skrtel's really skating on thin ice with his shirt pulling. Can't really argue with anything other than the offside which was absolutely comical.

I'm not too sure what to think about this shirt pulling stuff. Because Caulker made a big fuss early in the Cardiff game the TV camera's were focusing on him and Skrtel and that's carried on into today's game. Skrtel's certainly not the only defender in the League that does it, in fact you'll see some sort of shirt pulling from every set-play in every game. He's just being focused on at the moment but nothing he done was worse than what Lescott done to Suarez.
