Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 23rd October 2016]

will be interesting if Man U don't get top 4, the precedence has been set, that would have to sack Mourinho, but then who do they do for then.

United are still crap, Ibra doesn't suit this league, right back is crap, they need an experienced CB, and a top draw DMC.

will be interesting if Man U don't get top 4, .

doubt they will. i had them close runners on city for the title before the season started because their attack looked good (on paper) and they spent big

what a mistake. jose doesn't play attacking football, their attack is not connecting, the players they spent big on are naff and their defence is a sieve

best bit about it is they can't improve or change much under jose as that's not how he works. it'll be get the cheque book out again

Oh dear, he's been one of the small rays of light this season. Guess we'll be back to Blind and Smalling... scary prospect.

Attacking-wise we just look awful, there's no continuity, no link up. Lingard doesn't do anything particularly well, I've no idea how he's a starter for a club in the top half and Rashford is far too one-dimensional and needs to be used as a super sub, certainly for now. On paper, some combination of Pogba/Mata/Martial/Herrera/Mkhi/Ibra should be very dangerous but this season so far there has been nothing.

I do love how it's gone from rashford is the messiah to he's a super sub. If that happens with Jose then he will get moved on and he will buy a 50m striker.

To me he's just the latest young united striker that will move on for game time. Macheda and Hernadez were the next great thing for a while too. United just don't do bringing on young strikers very well, the pressure at the top is too much. They like Jose, buy them.

Rashford isn't a winger, he's a striker. Judging him whilst playing out of position is ludacriously harsh.

I said it earlier, under Mourinho he'll never be a striker on a regular basis. He might play the odd game or like today, move up there when you're chasing the game but that will be about it.

Mourinho's always had physical centre fowards that can play up front on their own (he typically plays with just 1 striker), with their back to goal and can hold up the ball and bring others into the game. Real Madrid was the exception to the rule but they're unique in terms of their quality relative to the rest of the league.

I don't think Rashford has any of the qualities to play like a Mourinho centre forward and although he's young and things might change, I don't get the feeling he'll ever be that type of striker. Could you imagine him playing up front on his own like Ibra has these past 2 league games? He wouldn't have had a kick.

Not getting top 4 will have effects on the Adidas deal too I think. I don't think Mourinho will turn it around, better managers and several teams with better cohesion.

Regardless of results for City, which are better(though I think a much better team) there has been a massive change in style and tactics under Guardiola. Chelsea look very different with almost the same players under Conte, a 3-4-3 for one thing today. Under Mourinho Utd's offence still looks clueless, he hasn't improved the form of any players, he hasn't changed the feel of the defence, the mentality of the team.

While City and Chelsea haven't come close to finished their journey under their new managers, the direction and change is clear, with Mourinho there just looks to be no plan, no idea, nothing they are moving towards, no particular style being put on the team. Just when it goes wrong, put everyone deep and try not to lose, which isn't even working well.

I honestly think the only thing Mourinho has ever done is be a motivational coach to get the best out of a group of players over a 1-2 year time frame before they burn out. I don't think he has ever created a new or better team, I don't think he has a brilliant system or brilliant tactics, he just persuades players to run themselves into the ground on the style they had before he joined... except getting worse and stale over time. That blueprint can't possibly work on a team that had decent defensive/grind a result mentality under LVG but had no top tactics, style or attack to get the best out of mentally. They need a manager to build something at Utd and Mourinho isn't that guy.

I think Enrique and Simeone will be looking for a new challenge within a year or two and that is Utd's best chance for real change and building a team to win a CL again. Simeone seemingly had his contract length reduced with Atletico as well, so he seems to be off and seems to have a destination, not entirely sure who would obviously be moving on soon... Wenger?

Atleti play far more attractive football than Man U have played for years. Their play gets overlooked because of their defensive attributes, but they're far from boring.

I do find it baffling we're discussing managerial changes already, Mourinho is one of the top managers out there still. It's the drivel that's playing for him.

Think of the quality that could have been bought for that Pogba money. Ridiculous.

The flair and attractive football Man U fans cry out for would not be achieved under Simeone.

If you've never watched Atletico you could say that. They are a great team to watch. They aren't purely attacking like Real and Barca, but they are also a team being run on half or less of the budget. They are anything but a park the bus team. They play some brilliant attacking football and some phenomenal defensive football.

It should be clear, you can defend brilliantly with a back four and a DM, or you can drop everyone deep and go to a back 6 with wide players becoming fullbacks and the entire midfield covering the space just infront of the back four. Atletico defend brilliantly... with their defence. Their wingers and midfielders defend and work hard, but they get forward plenty and don't get insanely deep. Mourinho plays significantly more defensive football than Atletico and his teams always do it with numbers with dropping deeper and being far far more boring.

I don't think that kind of football even exists now. Everything is engrained in players brain is to not lose, keep it simple and stifle any freedom out of them.

Liverpool or Arsenal are the only real teams that play with a bit of flair but they will probably never win anything major.

It's one or the other unless you have Barcelona's players.

It was woeful watching those ties against PSV, Barce and Bayern last season. It was all about grinding out the results.

I think we're more likely to buy an entire new starting 11 than ship out Mourinho.

Say what you like about him and his methods, but he's done it all, most of our players haven't.
