Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 24th Jan 2012]

Also, while you guys are giving Young a hard time, he both started the season brilliantly, got injured and hasn't played much since, he didn't play well when he came back, but the entire team was playing like a bunch of retards as well.

No he didn't, if for arguments sake you rate a player out of 10 and 7/10 is a solid performance and then anything above ventures into good, very good & brilliant then Young's had 2 good games (Spurs & Arsenal) & 1 solid game (City in the Shield) and everything else has been a 6/10. That isn't a brilliant start. The form Valencia is in at the moment now that's brilliant 9 assists & 2 goals in his last 9 games and those are proper assists not simply just touching the ball back to Rooney twice in 1 game for two free kicks.

I dont know how Young played for England at the start of the season and nor do I care, I care about Man Utd and of his 17 appearances he's had 2 good games.

Ox was good today but, both Utd weren't very good, and Arsenal were terrible, its hard to gauge exactly how good he really was. Would he have been as successful against Barca or just a team playing really well? Also while I think chamberlain certainly has the ability to play brilliantly, and certainly can't be less consistent than Theo or Gervinho......... that doesn't necessarily mean he can perform like he did today every game, or even half the games he plays.

Remember, Arsenal paid the same for Theo, who people were raving about as well, were you angry Utd didn't buy Walcott instead of Arsenal, not a chance.

He was also excellent for England in all his appearances in the same period, looking a mile better than Rooney for Utd and England till he got injured.

Utd fans were even saying he was excellent, then when he looked a bit poo when he came back with injury when the whole team was playing poo...... you all seemed to turn on him instantly.

I take it you don't remember the fa cup 4th round last season which alex got a full 90 mins against united then, he didn't get on the score sheet but (like whole team that day) did really rather well. Was very pleased after that game despite being a 2-1 loss. He's turned out to be what he looked like at the start, pace, pace, pace and well nothing else.

Young looked good at the start of the season but has been really hit and miss (shame about the injury as thats one you can't predict) but I can't see why he was chosen over AOC (untied apparently didn't even put a formal bid in, only Arsenal made a real bid and Liverpool tried to fax one in which got laughed at and binned). AOC looked a mile above L1, as does Rhodes this season, you'd be silly not to give it a bash, the Arsenal fans reaction to Wenger was priceless too, sometimes faith in kids is much more sensible than pretending the manager knows best...

Theo cost 9m overall (was supposed to be 12m but be have been through all sorts of financial problems and cashed in early on him and Bale, idiots used to run our club).

Yup, but still ultimately proof you can play well in a one off game isn't proof someone can do that week in week out for years.

I think he can, I think its madness that we haven't played him more, like I said earlier the fact that he both wouldn't have started if the woeful Gervinho was fit, and this was his first prem league start are unbelievable and PROVE that Wenger has lost his god damned mind. Chamberlain looks effective(so far) for essentially all his time on the pitch, goal or no goal, he's doing the right things with the ball, attacking, not scared to go foward, creative, intelligent on the ball, pressures the opposition well and wins the ball or holds on to it well. The other issue is, Utd can buy Young, will likely get 4-5 good years out of him........ by which point Chamberlain will be desperate to leave Arsenal and Utd can buy him then....... :(

He is, categorically better than Walcott, he's almost certainly better than Gervinho(being his first year in a new league, new team its POSSIBLE Gervinho might come good), the fact that we haven't given him games is just retarded.

Same thing with Wilshire, he wasn't any better after being at Bolton than he was a year earlier in preseason with us, he is miles ahead of Song, at the time we still had Denilson, Rosicky, Diaby and Nasri and he was better than ALL of them. We didn't play him for a season and played worse players instead.

You've got a deep seated, completely unfixable problem when for over 5 years you simply drop "better" players for guys who are worthless week in week out. It started with Hleb, worthless worthless player, Pires proved himself game after game, goals, assists, creativity and genius that Hleb never once showed, yet we take off our second best player and leave on a worthless twit in a champions league damn final, and that decision cost us two players, one very good and one exceptional. It's only gotten worse since then. :(

I mean, Fergie's had his injuries to cope with and that means sometimes you play crap players, that's life. But what would most people do if Fergie dropped Giggs of Scholes to play Gibson every game for 2-3 years........ what if he dropped Nani for Obertan, etc, etc.

Wenger is completely mental, not least because Walcott is a runner, not a football player and Chamberlain plays the "old" Wenger way, direct, pacey, intelligent, talented and creative, Theo doesn't.

My thoughts on the game.
1st half was disappointing from both but Nasri scored a great goal and Lescott bundled one in but we went to pieces after and let an imo lucky goal from Defoe and great goal from Bale in as well as allowing a lot of chances for Spurs to score. Great penalty from Balotelli at the end though to win which is all that matters tbh.

I think Lescott would have been hard done by had he been sent off although the consistency this year wouldn't have surprised me either way and Balotelli I still maintain did not do it intentionally.

Main positives is that Nasri played well, Silva was back to his best and Milner/Barry were excellent again.

Sorry if reads like a BBC match report or something but oh well.
Que tearing apart of my post....

lol, Silva was rubbish and Nasri were rubbish, they both linked up once in a useful way and got a goal, and took advantage of a massive gap to do so. The rest of the game both were pretty much completely useless.

Milner and Barry were excellent, sure......

Richards was good as per usual, Clichy bar a funny yellow card(but understandable) and a few dodgey moments in the second half was FAR better in the second and his not fannying around like almost every other player in the pitch and getting the ball up the field led to the penalty.

There's loyalty and then there's blind loyalty. A trip to specsavers is in order Biz.

Watching that and to me it is not intentional, he goes to put his right foot on the ground so he is stood up properly and facing goal if the ball came back to him...he is stood up until he loses his balance. This is because of the unnatural way he tries to position his body as everyone has said he fell unnaturally and so this is why it looks like it is intentional.

This coupled with Modric pushing Balotelli mid air would have put him off balance straight away. Lets be honest as well he doesn't have good balance, constantly falls over himself.

Of course no matter what evidence there was he would still be slagged so we will just have to wait and see what FA do.

From that video you can also see Webb has a clear view and took no action. Nor in fact did any Spurs player complain.

The only reason why none arsenal fans still back wenger is because they enjoy arsenal fast becoming a feeder club and a mid table team.

Most arsenal fans want wenger out and is just the fickle spurs, united, chelsea etc etc fans that want wenger to stay

Chamberlain may not play great week in week out but its a fact that Chamberlain played well last night mate and he could have won us the game. take each game as it goes mate.

for those who didn't see it

Thanks for that as I didnt see it. Looked pre-meditated to me.

As for Balotelli. I don't see his stamp as any better or worse than that of Carl Henry and his punishment should be equal to that of Henry.

Seriously doubt the FA will do anything to either player.

Watching that view and speed doesn't look AS bad but I still think it was intentional. Looking at that view, does Balotelli even make contact? Parker should get a 3 game ban for feigning injury ;)

He does miss, the only impact surely is at 4 seconds where he hits parkers face with his calf?

To me it looks like he went for him and missed or luckily made little contact at all.

The lescott one as much I dislike him is a lot of fuss about nothing a little bit of wrist on a off balance player. Not that he could complain if it got a red.

If he missed why did Parker have a cut on his head?

Any pictures of said cut, I can't find anything other than Harry saying he has a lovely cut to the head and not sure if he's had stitches. Even the pictures I can find of him sitting up after the stamp I can't see any damage or blood?

I can't seem to find any pictures of a cut/blood and no one seems to be showing any...

I'm not defending Balotelli he should have gone if he made contact, but did he?

Of course it was intentional by baloteli, you can't just fall or slip and end up using force to swing your leg backwards in the manner he did!

Typical of Lee Dixon on MOTD2 to defend him being a City fan (would have thought Dixon's loyalty would be with Arsenal, how is he a city fan?).

He's from Manchester and a boy hood City fan.

mate you need to take your blinkers off, it is comendable that you will defend your team to the hilt but you're making yourself look a bit silly.
