Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 25th November 2014]

De Gea was immense, Unreal amount of chances with Arsenal not scoring till the last few minutes. Wilshere should have seen a Red for sure.

Progress of course, half the first team are injured (not that some of them are great players, but better than the alternatives).

Great result considering the injuries and to be fair we should have been playing against 10 men for a good 60 minutes of the game.

Saying that, these injuries to Jones and Evans could be the making of McNair and Blackett. Out of the two, McNair looks to be the more comfortable. Hes got pace and can play the ball. Just missing a bit of muscle and a whole lot of experience

Meh, we do need a striker and I like Dzeko, but the problem is Ramsey/Arteta/Flamini/Caz/Ozil in midfield, they are all stupid, all limited, all weak and not nearly good enough. Ramsey had 4 good months in what 5 years and people are ready to proclaim him the best player in the league, it's laughable. He's not been a bit off this season he's been woeful, his passing has been abysmal.

Sanchez has the worst passing stats in the league, he's wasteful and awful on the ball. Fox in the box... but wants to play like a playmaker and Wenger is playing him as a playmaker rather than a fox in the box.

We do everything wrong, we buy a player to use him in the wrong position, we buy the wrong type of player we don't need, drop players who are good and offer some differences in the team. Refuse to drop crap players or those performing awfully at the time, bench players who play well. There is no logic or sense in anything Wenger does any more.

Midfield is fine. All decent players being managed badly, but we all know arsenal should sack wenger and get a new manager. Problem is it seems you will never sack the man, the legend.

Maybe my ridiculous bet that utd will win the league may come through! :p who knows after January!

The funniest thing is that the goal happened because neither Carrick nor the other defender there thought he'd shoot from there. You both see them purposefully hold their runs and stop, not getting between goal and Giroud as they just didn't think he'd turn and shoot, woeful defending. Idiot players.

Dude it was a fantastic goal.
Not many goalkeepers or defences would've stopped that.
You cant blame anyone for not stopping a fantastic shot like that.

I am so mad atm. We are a bunch of pathetic losers run by a senile old fool. And the fact we had so many attempts will just let Wenger gloss over it as 'unlucky'.

What do you think of Blackett?

He did a few last ditch clearances today but he also made a couple of major mistakes by hogging the ball for too long and allowing a tackle to come in (fortunately Arsenal didn't make the most of it, but judgement needs a lot of work imo)

I really like McNair, yes he needs some muscle and a lot of experience but really glad he is getting the opportunities.

I think Jones makes a better fellaini than fellaini himself lol but as a defender (like Smalling) he just hasn't done enough.

I think by the summer Utd have to get rid of at least one of Smalling, Jones and Evans if not two of them.

Glad Utd won but team still looked terrible in the 1st half

Dude, we won.
Away to Arsenal.
With lots of injuries.
And a make-shift defence.

Sometimes, even the best teams need to win ugly.
You shouldn't expect a top display every game, especially when Blind (who usually starts our attacks and maintains possession) is injured.

Pretty football is nice, but right now, we need points. This is what LvG is working on.

We cannot afford to sell any defenders.
Our defenders are made of glass, so we have to assume that the injuries to our defenders will continue.
If we sell defenders we will need to continue using midfielders in defence - which is not a good plan.

We need to buy more defenders. Not sell them.

Worrying game for Arsenal. They dominated the game against a Utd side that had 2 rookie CB's and 2 wingers playing as wing backs for the majority of the game and didn't create much and the few chances they did create they hit straight at De Gea.

Poor game for the officials too. Wilshere should have had a pen, should have been sent off and Fellaini was offside for Utd's first too.

that is EXACTLY why we need to sell them - BECAUSE they are made of glass.

Get some better built defenders (and ones who are more experienced at playing big games) and they know HOW to challenge without getting injured

Fellaini didn't touch the ball, and questionable whether he was active - so Im not sure how he can be offside

I started that movement before twitter was even invented...... :(

I think I've been calling it for about 5 seasons now. I really wanted to be proven wrong but the longer he stays the more the early Wenger-era title wins will be forgotten. Absolutely shocking result today, and just to think , we've got Dortmund this week

Blackett Is too similar to Smalling for my liking. Not a natural ball player and is not comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Whereas McNair you can see that he has experience playing in Midfield roles. He is doing now what the promise of Jones was. Except Jones started out as a CB. He was put into midfield to get experience and to make him an all round technically better player. Yet he his development has stood still for a good 2 years.

I would wager that Jones would be the one to be sacrificed

In that case, we should first buy new defenders. Once they have arrived, we can sell the glass defenders.
But selling our existing defenders before any ready made replacements - this is risky and will result in us using midfielders in defence.
