Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 25th November 2014]

Not exactly sure what is difficult to comprehend, I think lacking the financial power to buy in the best current players every year means Arsenal financially can't compete with the very best meaning all things being equal(equally good managers in charge) then I would expect a team with more money to win the title more often, but not exclusively otherwise Bayern wouldn't have lost the title for two years, and Real/Barca wouldn't have lost it last year, etc.

I think teams spending over 150mil a year in wages and who can afford to spend 50mil a year in transfer is a small exclusive club in which Arsenal belong, that means they should be up there. City have a bigger squad so if Arsenal get more injuries one year they'll cope less well, but most teams have good and bad years, in form, injuries, luck... Arsenal don't, we have bad years in all three things every year, because of Wenger. A huge difference in the spending and wages between Arsenal and City is who they have as back up, which in a good year actually doesn't matter, in a bad year will.

Swansea, Atletico, Dortmund, Hull, Wigan, etc, all manage to get to finals and win cups or come close. Wigan spending 40mil in wages compared to our 150mil won a cup... money is a means to consistently competing not having enough doesn't make it impossible to compete. The more you have the closer and more competitive you should be. Arsenal should be FAR more competitive than we have been and money is no where near the primary reason we haven't been competitive.

There isn't a player atletico or Dortmund have ever bought, or currently have who Arsenal couldn't have bought. Thus, if we can actually afford to have both bought and continue to pay both the Atletico AND Dortmund squad within our current budget.... how are we so uncompetitive when both those teams have reached champions league finals. It's not about money, why are Dortmund doing badly now, because teams with less money will have some bad years, some really bad years, and will cope less well in a year with loads of injuries or lose their best players. But the very point is, they are competitive quite often, something Arsenal are not. I'm not saying Arsenal should be in the title fight every year, but some years we should be, and we shouldn't win loads of titles, but we should win more than we do. The reason we lose to the big teams every single year is not money but tactics, injuries, and Wenger.

Implying that every player who gets offered to play for arsenal would accept - which is by no means true

Just because "smaller" teams have a certain player, has no relevance as to whether any "bigger" club would have got them with a larger bid (or would have moved on after growing from an academy player at the same club)

the reason why I lolled tbh was the smash and grab...

When it comes to Arsenal I really do not get it. The most unpredictable team in recent memory.

Wenger has been at the helm now for so many years you would assume you could predict performances / results?

New manager needed imo (as you point out). It's time surely now.

Before you really believe that, know that in England there are 3 other clubs who spend the same or more than arsenal. Not 1. So even if chelsea or city don't do well. Utd might do or vice versa. All 3 if those teams spend more than arsenal and mostly get priority on buying new players in a fight.

It is of no surprise that in the last couple of seasons both utd and arsenal have had to blow their transfer records just to be able to compete with city and Chelsea on a per player basis.

However you will always be 2-3 top players away from those squads even if you invest now at the same rate that they do. Unless they stumble how can you expect to truly compete with them having an inferior team and squad of your own? Yes you can put up a fight but will always be second best in thus case 4th at best.

He was ruled out yesterday due to injury not that it matters because he sucks anyway.

Hopefully Rodgers will buck the trend and stop playing his favourites today. Back 6 including Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren and Gerrard is guaranteed to concede and he needs to change things around.

Watching us when we were crap before didn't feel this much of a chore, complete ****ing waste of 2 hours incoming

At least Johnson is at left back, thats todays positive

I do wonder when question will seriously start getting asked by our owners (before any one says no i dont want him sacked) his complete lack of change this year is baffling

But Manquillo's playing which probably means Johnson will be back at right back midweek when Moreno comes back in the team.

Pls Pigeon, I'm trying to be somewhat happy

I imagine he does change things and how we're supposed to play plenty and they do work on it, he isn't retarded, but we are so god awfully **** its hard to distinguish between the different types of **** we're playing

I like to think anyone with a brain doesn't want him sacked, expect Clearly to be on here later calling him 'Fraudgers' as he turns on his teams and managers weekly
