Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 26th October 2011]

The problem is we're starting players that should be backup/squad players as our first choices now. Fletcher, Evans, Smalling (not at right back) and Welbeck (not yet anyway) are not United first 11 quality.

That was annoying to watch. City was the way better team, we deserved to lose that.
It's really odd, it wasn't our CM fault this time that was at fault. The players just seemed off pace, Nani, Rooney, Evra (as usual). I keep thinking since Cleverley was injured we started to play rubbish but I don't think that's it. I feel Ferguson has decided not to play like that as it left De Gea (who was looking a bit frail at the time) exposed.

Hats off for Mancini, he picked the team perfectly today.

People keep saying that but, what else would anyone have done, Balotelli and Aguero were the inform strikers, pick themselves, defence picks itself, Silva, Toure, pick themselves, Barry basically had nothing to do all game, but is a starter no matter what, and picking Nasri over Milner has backfired a few times already in "bigger" games, though today it wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference.

There really isn't anyone in City's squad they could have shoved in midfield who wouldn't have torn Fletcher and Anderson apart, those two simply aren't even remotely close to good enough, lose in central midfield , 99% you'll lose the game aswell.

Just about any sane team City could have put out today would have won, it wasn't tactical genius, or even that hard a game, Utd had plenty of posession but never really looked dangerous, after the goal there was only one team in the game.

Kidding right, Chelsea did it, UTD have spent, Infact this is silly not one of us like how City have spent but i bet if roles were reserved you wouldnt complain like many others wouldnt either.

What will happen to City in 30 years time might be shafted for money or be perfectly fine if they win stuff etc get more revenue.

But united have mainly spent the money earned from their success and built squads from their youth. This is how it should be done, i have no respect for chelsea either btw. I just find it sad that you can buy success instead of earning it nowadays but hey ho. Money makes the world go round and all that

City are basically the new Madrid, except with more money but less pedigree/trophies. Wouldn't be surprised if they keep buying a higher and higher quality of player, especially if they win the league, although I can't see how this will work with financial fair play or home grown quotas. Nothing that some cheeky cash in hand won't fix you imagine.

Can't see them getting Messi because the home-grown Barca players seem to be ultra-loyal, but wouldn't be surprised to see Ronaldo coming back to Manchester if Madrid win La Liga and the CL at some point in the next couple of years. How will they sell all their cast-off's on mega-lulz wages though?

You're still spending money to win the league, regardless of how you got it, and it's been a problem with football since long before the likes of City and Chelsea. Why should you be so rewarded for winning before? It's exactly that kind of situation that's made the top of the Premiership such a closed shop these days.

lol, Fergie got it all wrong, Hernandez on to try and get back in the game. He's a tap in artist, for me Hernandez and Welbeck will only ever be good when the team is completely on top, when required to hold up the ball and create goals, help take a game back both are useless.

Welbeck did nothing all game, Hernandez did nothing when he came on, Rooney did nothing of note throughout, Nani was similar and Fletcher/Anderson, horrific.

Anderson is simply not a good footballer, people get easily confused as to who was actually good when a team wins, Anderson, alongside a very good Cleverley and when the team is playing well just isn't under pressure, in a game like today, defensive positioning, horrible, going forwards, slow, laboured, useless shooting, slow, rubbish passing.

He should have been sent off aswell, almost a straight red for the foul on Silva, had Silva's foot been planted that was a ankle snapping tackle, he's incredibly lucky his foot was just off the ground. How it wasn't a yellow at the very least I don't know, could easily have been given as a red, and a clear as day penalty/foul on Richards later on, then finally finally got a yellow card for the softest of fouls he commited all day long.

That was a game Utd desparately needed posession upfront later on, and someone to pick out truly world class throughballs and move it quickly when required, how Berbatov wasn't subbed on instead of Hernandez I don't know.

I can understand flooding forward at 3-1 and suddenly thinking they had a chance, but at 4-1, how Utd didn't see out the game with 10 men behind the ball I don't know, thats just schoolboy, shocking and embarassing. Ok, you go 4-1 while trying to get a last minute goal, 5-1 and 6-1, when theres literally no chance of getting back in the game, the only goal is not conceding again, and repeatedly in the final 2 minutes Utd get caught with less men in their own half than City have, no idea what thats about.

I'll bite, you sound like a complete idiot.

Rooney did nothing all game? He spent half the second half back defending AND getting forward, aside from Young and Anderson he probably did the most for United. And claiming Anderson isn't a good footballer shows you clearly have no ...ing idea what you are talking about. He is the only good midfielder United have at the moment and the only effective player at breaking down play and holding onto the ball, he uses his strength and his passing is miles better than half the other midfielders in the league. The only times he is poor is near the end of games when his obvious lack of fitness shows.

I hope when you mean you you dont imply i support City as i dont i support liverpool so its fun to see UTD lose :D

Whilst yes UTD have spent the money mainly generated unfortuenatly the game is now more revolved around money more than it once was which i think has had a big effect.

It's painfully obvious after that game that United desperately lack a truly creative central midfielder. City have Silva, Spurs have Modric, Chelsea have Mata and Lampard, Liverpool have Gerrard. What do United have in that central role? Anderson, Fletcher and Carrick!

Not that that's why City thumped United today, they simply played better, Fergie's team selection and tactics were poor, and having a man sent off really stuffed things up, but if United fail to win the premier league this year I will be pointing the finger at Fergie for his failure to recognise our lack of quality in centre mid. I hate to bring up the whole Sneijder thing again, but we could have really done with him today.

I know one player can't be blamed for a frankly embarassing defeat like that but why does Ferguson persist with Evans? He gave away the ball for the build up to their first and then gets himself sent off.

I don't know why when the through ball gets played he decides to pull the man rather than go for the ball and damn near give away a penalty, for me it makes no sense. He's had a couple of good games this season for a game like this surely he should start Phil Jones to partner Ferdy?

This is gonna hurt for a while until we smash them at the Etihad! :D

No the game is still about getting a good set of players, keeping your team consistent and building form. At the minute we seem to be failing in all 3 departments after our early sucess in the season.

We seem to play a different midfield/forward combo every match and our defence is rotating constantly. You cant expect to beat teams like cities in the form that we are in. Before this game we had only won 3 of our last 6, and some of those were a bit fortunate for us, and the ones we didnt win we really did look average at best if not awful for large parts of the matches.

You do realise the amount of players that have come through the City academy? Granted not all of them are here now because of the investment.

We brought through Barton, SWP, Hart (to an extent), Richards, Onouha, Ireland and M Johnson who all played for the first team frequently.

Then you have the likes of Ched Evans, Schmeichel, BWP, Sturridge and Ishamel Miller who all played for us and now play in the Championship, League 1 and Prem (Sturridge)

That was when we had no money, when Thaksin came in we spent but still had the likes of Richards, Ireland and SWP etc.

Now Mansour is here it will be hard for them to come through but we do have a lot of good prospects such as Rekik (potentially world class), Guidetti, Suarez, Roman and Razak. All of them bar Guidetti who is out banging them in the dutch league will play v Wolves etc next week in the CC.
