Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 26th October 2011]

I know one player can't be blamed for a frankly embarassing defeat like that but why does Ferguson persist with Evans? He gave away the ball for the build up to their first and then gets himself sent off.

I don't know why when the through ball gets played he decides to pull the man rather than go for the ball and damn near give away a penalty, for me it makes no sense. He's had a couple of good games this season for a game like this surely he should start Phil Jones to partner Ferdy?

This is gonna hurt for a while until we smash them at the Etihad! :D

I agree on Evans, but I don't think he should take all the blame.

Watch the replays for goals 3-6. Evra is nowhere to be seen, at least nowhere near his position and his man. I know he was forward on some of those occasions, but he's the captain and supposed to set an example. Not sure the example he was going for though? Get forward and just stroll back into position while they bang a few goals in? He's been poor for a while now but in most games it's gone unnoticed because we've been scoring.

You do realise the amount of players that have come through the City academy? Granted not all of them are here now because of the investment.

We brought through Barton, SWP, Hart (to an extent), Richards, Onouha, Ireland and M Johnson who all played for the first team frequently.

Then you have the likes of Ched Evans, Schmeichel, BWP, Sturridge and Ishamel Miller who all played for us and now play in the Championship, League 1 and Prem (Sturridge)

That was when we had no money, when Thaksin came in we spent but still had the likes of Richards, Ireland and SWP etc.

Now Mansour is here it will be hard for them to come through but we do have a lot of good prospects such as Rekik (potentially world class), Guidetti, Suarez, Roman and Razak. All of them bar Guidetti who is out banging them in the dutch league will play v Wolves etc next week in the CC.

Honestly mate, tonight is the night you don't have to defend anything. Just enjoy the win :)

True, although I do think it was the turning point of the game (and getting rid of some steam :p). For the last two goals it was 3 on 3 or even 3 on 2, I know we wanted to salvage something but leaving HUGE gaps at the back when were down to 10 men is just suicide.

It looked like we just gave up, which is something I've never seen in a Utd side in recent times.

Thing is though evra is our playnaker from left back but he is dam handy id put him in midfield.

I agree he starts a LOT of moves going forwards, perhaps he would be better as a left midfielder, but he plays left back and a lot of the time he just missing completely. Only for him to stroll back into screen while someone else is having to sprint back into position. He wasn't anywhere near his position for any of the last four goals today and it's so frustrating just watching him stroll back into screen as other teams run off celebrating their goal.

He's a great defender and great at getting forward, but he just doesn't seem to bother with the defensive side much any more.

Exactly my feelings. It isn't really the scoreline that bothers me, it's October and anyone who thinks the league is over is, well, very stupid, it's the way most of our players just gave up, and the way they've been playing over the last two or three games. They can't be tired already, none of them (who are playing) have niggling injuries (that we know of) but they seem to have just stopped playing the football we played at the start of the season. Don't know how many times we hoofed in crosses today - Rooney and Welbeck against their tall, muscular defence, not a chance.

I'll bite, you sound like a complete idiot.

Rooney did nothing all game? He spent half the second half back defending AND getting forward, aside from Young and Anderson he probably did the most for United. And claiming Anderson isn't a good footballer shows you clearly have no ...ing idea what you are talking about. He is the only good midfielder United have at the moment and the only effective player at breaking down play and holding onto the ball, he uses his strength and his passing is miles better than half the other midfielders in the league. The only times he is poor is near the end of games when his obvious lack of fitness shows.

Some things you failed to mention, Anderson's the only good midfielder, he broke down no attacks, he failed constantly, he should have gotten TWO red's, one straight, one yellow while conceding a penalty for fouling Richards who didn't even have the ball.

For all his great breaking down of attacking play, he failed to actually do that all game, for all his great attacking passing, he failed to do that all game today.

Generally when people say a player does nothing, its not a literal "nothing" but an effective nothing. He tracked back all the second half, thats great, you didn't mention the first half? How did that tracking back go in the second half, did he help, no, did he break up attacks, no, did he make multiple great tackles, no. Run back all game long, if its not actually helping the team, so what, Rooney could have run in a circle all game, you couldn't literally say he did nothing, but you could say he effective did nothing to help his team today...... which is exactly what Rooney did(nothing to help, not running in circles). His attacking play wasn't good, he passed up several chances to shoot from range, his passing wasn't great, though he received very little of the ball in good situations with people making good runs ahead of him.

The main issue though is, no, people who really don't get football see Anderson not screwing up, and even getting a goal when the REST of the team play great, when the team is under pressure, or not playing well, Anderson is rubbish, an ankle breaking type challenge, a penalty he should have conceded, a red card he should have got(at the very least one yellow for the should have been penalty and the tackle on Silva), what else did he do, wheres the evidence of the great defensive play, City did as they wanted in midfield today.

The quite simple way to tell today is, if I was wrong, Anderson would have made loads of tackles and City would have found it very hard to get at the defence today and had great trouble in midfield. If you're wrong, and the fantastic Anderson and the very useful Rooney tracking back would have had almost no effect at all on City in midfield.......... which one is the reality of the situation today.

city were a different league, they looked so relaxed on the ball. even if evans hadn't have been sent off they would have won. united's defence was standing still at times, it was unbelievable. their midfield was vacant and rooney had to come so deep it was embarassing.
mancini has worked wonders. respect to him. ok he's got a dream team but it doesn't mean it will always work, they were great to watch today.
