Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 26th October 2011]

Every year it's the same on here, Manu fans throwing in the towel after the bad starts of the last few years. Only to go on and win the league.

This year started well and it's been how good Fergie bought and how the new players have slotted in. They lose one game and the towel goes in again. Talksport was a disgrace with united fans bleating.

When Man city bought Robhino I was laughed at for suggesting united fans better get used to a new order because if the arab was serious no one could compete with that spending.

I love listening to United fans moan about teams buying the league when they did the exact same thing prising players from sides with the lure of bigger wages and transfer fees. Not on the same current scale but only because Manu helped move the figures along.

I will absolutely love it if City manage it this year, just to hear all the bleating about money ruining the game. No one ever cares about money ruining the game when their team are top of the league. Once city get one they will get confidence and probably be uncatchable with the funds they have.

I don't see them doing it this year though, I think it will take another year.

except arsenal.w e competeed with united millions and won a title without losing a single game :)

Thats why lots of neutrals love arsenal

City far more inventiveness, far quicker, far hungrier, more ideas, more options, more firepower.

Honorable mentions to Milner and Richards today who were superb.

As I said before the season started, whoever finishes above Man City will win the league, if anyone.

Thought I best show my face in here, not much I can say about the defeat tbh. Had it stayed at XI v XI I'd of fancied our chances of getting something from the game but even after the sending off the holes that we left in defence was inexcusable and you can't really blame being down to 10 men as a reason for that. The players themselves should really ashamed for the way they played in stoppage time 1-4 was bad enough but to continue with the kamikaze attacking and concede 2 more goals in as many minutes was just down right embarrassing

It's certainly not a pivotal moment in the season as I'm sure when City go to Chelsea, Liverpool and maybe even Arsenal things won't go their way like they did today and all today means that we'll need to beat them at Eastlands (not that any kind of win there will ever really make up for today)

Fair play to City though Milner and Silva especially were fantastic for them.

My head keeps on saying its only 3 points, its only 3 points. its only......

My heart is going to hurt for a very long time

Once City have got through a winter with 1/2 a fit 1st XI and no 1st choice defence to speak of and still accumulate enough points to win a title, then they might have proved something - all these 3rd rate hacks that think its a turning point have no idea at all

2nd weekend in a row Fergie made a tactical error in selection, last weekend Utd got away with it at Anfield, but this one he / the team didnt.

Should have started with Chicharito, Vidic and Jones instead of Welbeck, Rio and Evans (Rio arguable I agree, but Im not convinced by him, team needs consistancy) - would have also had central midfield options on the bench at the very least

On the bright side at least Chelsea got beat in a game they should really have won (well done QPR fully deserved) on paper, an got a few red cards as well

To be honest, they won't have any problems with their squad, injuries or games coming fit and fast.

Their bench is the envy of any team in Europe.

David Silva's passing is quite majestic. He really is a gem.

I seriously hate Man city and want them to fail miserably as opposed to buying the title from obscurity but that performance was outstanding.

I feel strangely proud we only conceded 4 and are the only team to score at their place this year so far :p

...but the way the Premiership has developed, the only way it's going to be wrestled away from Man U will be finance - Chelsea did it, and now Man City have done it in a huge way.

Liverpool and Spurs, despite their big investment, are so so far behind.

Look it will hardly be the first time united have won the league while losing to other teams in the top 4. City will have a spell where they drop a lot of points. They won't maintain this consistency for long, they have far too many players to try to keep happy.

The knee jerk reactions from united fans is amazing considering the success they had last year with a far worse team.

lol funny post. How can you say Vidic & Jones should have started when they were obviously not fit enough to start. If they were they would have started, especially a head of Evans.

City are covered in pretty much every position with quality. If a lb gets injured there is Clichy or Korolev, RB it's Richards or Zabaleta, CB they've got Toure in reserve, upfront well you know nothing needs to be said there, midfield they've got Nasri and Johnson who didn't play today.

They've got one of the best squads in the world... and what do you think would happen if one of them gets injured or more... they'll just buy some one else in January. If Lescott and Toure get injured during November / December and are out for x months then they will just give Dortmund £30m for Hummels and that'll be that.

Close call on that red for Bosingwa, I certainly didn't think it deserved it on first look.

Definitely a penalty for QPR though, and Drogba had to go.

Oh right, you know more than Fergie do you, most successful manger ever.

Love it when these arm chair fans suddenly know ever player to play despite not knowing anything about them or professional football.

Stop embarrassing yourself and your team.

Who's their 2nd choice gk? Or defence for that matter?

Attacking wise they are pretty well sorted I agree, but its also about individual match days and how ready the other players are to slot in to replace an injured /suspended player

.

City havent actually done anything yet - hold your horses until May

I really don't think you can point to much at Fergie's selections today, arguments can be made for and against almost every conceivable centre back partnership tbh.... Do you bring back Vidic who looked rusty in midweek and less we not forget also got sent off. Do you in hindsight say Jones should be played ahead of Evans as he's clearly the better talent despite the fact our defence has looked at it's worst this season when Jones has partnered Rio. Do you go Rio and Smalling who AFAIK have played very few games together or do you drop Rio and go Jones and Evans who played in the wins over Spurs and Arsenal? At the end of the day Rio had to play because of his experience so it was really a toss up between bringing a rusty Vidic back in or continuing with Evans who for the most part has done okay this season.

As for other areas of the pitch again you can make arguments for and against starting Hernandez over Welbeck but personally pre game I agreed with Fergie there also simply due to Chicharito's ability to get a goal from the bench.

People really need to stop harping on about how we lined up against Liverpool as well, the past 3 seasons we've gone there with our arguably our best XI and got overrun we went there last week with players who for the most part hadn't played for 2 weeks and were fresh with the thinking that we could bring on our match winners and win the game late on and apart from a spaz moment from Giggs that plan was going accordingly

Admittedly they don't have a big name back up goalkeeper, but historically, goalkeepers are generally the most consistent in terms of fitness.

Defensively, they have ample cover, in addition to Barry who can play at both centre half or left back, and Jimmy Milner could do a job at full back as he has in the past for England.

Suffice to say, Jonny Evans would do well to make their 25 man squad.....

The greatest weekend in recent history! Forest win, Derby lose, Leicester lose, Man U get an absolute shoeing and I have eaten lots of steak.

Silva is out of this world, that pass for the final goal, my god.

Just seen the Chelsea sending's off, Bosingwa looked a little harsh to me. SWP didn't even appeal nor was he exactly running straight down on goal.

Fair play to David Luiz, how many centre halfs in the World could pull off a bicycle kick like that!

I'd love to see Richard Dunne try that!
