Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22 - 26th December 2012]

There's nowt wrong with Stoke tbh these days, they play better football than many of the other teams of their calibre now, teams like Liverpool for instance.

True DAT.

Their have an immense defence but their offence is not shabby and they can counter well.

3-1 FT

Thought we played reasonably well in the first half but a slip and sloppy defending cost us the two goals. Second half we were abysmal and there isn't a single positive we can take away from it. Stoke didn't give us any time on the ball, they defended very well as a team and looked more threatening on the break. Well worth their win today :)

Positives
We got a penalty \o/ :D

Negatives
Rodgers tactical naivety - We knew what we were facing before the game yet didn't seem at all prepared for it.
Rodgers Substitutions - Taking Suso off at half time destroyed the momentum we had built during the first half and we got worse after each further substitution.
Enrique -
Shelvey - Said it time and time again, give him time on the ball and hes reasonably good but press him and he's abysmal. Touch of a Jimmy Savile today.
Gerrard - Hospital pass in the second half then threw his arms up in the air and refused to get back summed up his season so far. Thanks for the memory's but your times up! Doesn't suit this style of football and doesn't look remotely good enough anymore.

Enrique -

Have no idea about this comment - he may have given the ball away a few times but Enrique was the only player apart from Suarez who actually cared and was constantly trying to do something. He made some good challenges too and at least tries to beat a player, something downing is too afraid to try and do.

My turd would have done a better job at putting some stoke players off than shelvey - what an absolute **** performance, and his attitude stinks too. Whats worrying is that BR kept him on despite being completely inept today.

Im sure the club will cash in on suarez - he deserves much better than we can offer. To be 10th halfway through the season is an absolute disgrace. We will probably just finish outside relegation this season.

For a team that won the CL, got to the final 2 years later and be No 1 ranked in europe only 5 or so years ago, and now be a mediocre mid table team is an absolute disgrace. Oh wait we are also about to throw away another 12m on british turd once again. When will the club ever learn?

It'll probably be at least another 10 years before liverpool have any chance of getting into it now. How the mighty have fallen.

We played ok first half but crucially we weren't clinical in attack and Stoke were. Defensively we need to be stronger against the likes of Stoke - just like vs Villa, Jones caused us far too many problems than a player of his ability should. Second half we were a bit all over the place; we created a few bits and pieces but there was no sustained control of the game or pressure on their defense.

I'm not sure if it's more concerning that sides like Stoke can overrun us or that Rodgers didn't see it coming.
Have no idea about this comment -....

He's brain dead. He doesn't know when to pass the ball and constantly makes things harder than they need to be defensively.

As awesome as that game was and as stupid as that law is, Fergie has no right to rant like that at the officials. Totally outrageous and warrants a ban.

He gets his passion and drive into his team and you can't really expect him to change his spots but the FA need to grow a pair and say that kind of behaviour is not acceptable. He might temper himself somewhat in the future.
Thinking about it, the bloody ref should have booted him off. Total wimps for accepting that torrent of rant.

Shocking "analysis" from MOTD. Firstly, although Evans hand does touch the player, is that a foul? No. So it's irreverent. By their own admission Evans is aware of the guy so clearly he is "interfering with play". Thus the only issue is if this applies for own goals or not, which I honest have no idea of.
As for any ban, it would be inconsistent from the FA. The officials clearly heard/saw SAF and chose to not send him off/to the stands. So given they refuse to overrule decisions on players, I don't think this should be any different.
That being said, it wasn't pretty from SAF I agree, although you do see it to a similar degree from other managers, including this very game
