Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 28th December 2017]

Or City under-performed?
Assuming you mean players not playing to the level they were capable of rather than not playing to a level they were previously capable of, then no. If you look back at City's squad from 2015/16 it was full of players well past their best - Hart, Kompany, Zabaletta, Kolarov, Clichy, Toure, Fernando, Nasri, Bony etc. Of the rest of their squad I'm not sure you could argue any of them under performed - Aguero had an excellent season and while Fernandinho, KDB & Sterling didn't play to the level they have this season, they never played to that level before either and by their standards at the time, had decent seasons. It's been under Pep that they've reached the level they're currently playing at. If you were being really harsh you could point the finger at Silva for under performing but that's about it really.

That's no denying what Pep has done. I have new-found respect for him and he genuinely seems like a decent person, especially when compared to most other managers.

I guess the thing about this season is that Pep has got all the players to make his system/philosophy work. It wasn't so rosy last year. He also has learnt from last year, as any great person in any position should do.

Everything you just said is the opposite for Jose.

I always thought Pep was so so as he was given great teams but definitely have a new found respect for him, he's made Sterling a decent player :p

Sterling was always a decent player.

Peps doing a good job but when you spend 300mil net on top of a team containing De Bruyne,Silva,Aguero and Sterling then well I find it difficult to put him on some pedastal.

I get the argument that he has improved players, thats without doubt but these players have also aged a couple of years and have naturally progressed into better players.

Rumours they are signijg Van Dijk for 70 mil aswell.

I think the fact Pellegrini was bang average helped things looked good in his favour.

He does seem to be able to motivate people to work with crazy levels of intensity but the right type (so they aren't leaking goals) - it's a trait of all his teams isn't it.

Sure he spent a lot of money, but he spent it correctly/wisely (or got lucky?).

Their current run has to be admired surely. As much as it pains me to say that.

just a reminder that kane could beat shearers record today. hope everyone is behind him :)
No doubt he will get it, it’s only Soton.

Meh he’s a spurs player so I couldn’t give a flying fig if he does or doesn’t. But if he does then ermmm congrats??

Why? Because a football season runs from August to May, not the calendar year. And I've not once heard it mentioned until the last week or so.

so you don't recall when RVP almost did it?

seriously. the 'thing' here seems to be the fact that it's a spurs player that could do it. you'd have your chopper out if it had been a liverpool player

No, I don't remember when RVP almost did it. And I'd rather my side won something than a player break a record that nobody cares about.

What next? He's going to break the record for the most number of goals scored by somebody called Kane on a Tuesday?

I bet you didn't remember RvP almost doing it until Sky mentioned it earlier. I certainly didn't and I was RvP's biggest fan.
