Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 28th December 2017]

not as good as his reputation suggests? he'll beat shearers record from 1995 this year i reckon. that's 1995. awkward or not maybe because he doesn't look like a modern day streamlined striker? maybe because he doesn't have tattoo's and a flash hair cut or know how to do a celebratory dance? who cares? he's grounded, english, deadly in front of goal and best of all, he's a nice bloke.

i believe he'll stay at spurs for life. can't see him going abroad.
But does he walk to training?

As Baz said, there's nothing outstanding about him, he's just a very solid and consistent striker (which isn't a bad thing).

Will be unfortunate to see Can leave Liverpool on a free but it won't be a great loss to the team.
My view on Can changes by the week. He has all the raw materials, a great attitude but like so many players of ours, decision making and game intelligence let him down. He's not a natural defensive midfielder and I'm not sure he'll ever be one but I'd definitely rather have him in our squad than not.

Seriously though, do you think Kane will be happy winning nothing and getting underpaid for his whole career? Surely either Spurs become a contender or he goes to someone who can pay him the wage of a top player and let him win things.

He doesn't have the creative ability or pace to take one of the attacking spots and he's got the turning circle of an oil tanker, the awareness of Stevie Wonder and the defensive ability of Stephen Hawking in an Octagon. The massive potential he's shown for the last few years really hasn't come to much so far and I'm not sure it ever will at Liverpool.

Indeed, he won't be at Spurs much longer unless things change for them.

And that's the problem. He currently doesn't have a natural position in the system we play. In a 4-2-3-1 with a naturally defensively minded player alongside him he'd look at home but in a 4-1-2-3, he's a compromise in either the midfield roles. That said, he's still a very good player to have in the squad and I'd rather keep him than not but like you say, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Tbf, the biggest reason for me to keep him would be so I don't have to hear the endless moaning when he goes to Juve and becomes a genuine top quality midfielder because as above, in a different system he really has the potential to be excellent.

Unless Can's guaranteed regular first team football, which his ability currently doesn't warrant, he and/or his agent will look elsewhere imo. I do agree that his potential will eventually be realised, possibly at Juve or another team later down the line.

Wasn't it you that kept saying Bale was grounded, how he used to walk to training and would never leave?

i don't think i said he'd never leave. and look how that's working out for him? missed more games than he has played i believe

£ wont be the issue he's on probably £100k p/w and (i dunno) say £10k per goal bonus plus other £ bonuses but still, off the pace comparitively but i don't think he is driven purely by money

it's up to spurs to build things around him and we're doing that; good manager, new stadium. poch is in for the long term aslong as the investments are made and from what i gather, he's had assurances. you think pep will be at city in 3 yrs time? i don't he'll win the pl and probably the cl (probably this year tbh) and he'll get bored. you think mourinho will be at utd in 3 yrs time? klopp, wenger? this is the idealn time for kane to stay and help us build under poch

Yeah pretty crap. He could have been competing for the Caribou cup with you boys but instead has two (three?) champions league medals, La Liga titles and numerous cups. I bet he’s gutted to be on 300k odd a week too.

i'd rather be remember for being the pl all time top goal scorer than someone who made a big money move to be a bench warmer. if kane achieves that, it's a successful career based on loyalty as oppossed to £ imo

kane is loved at spurs, bale is nothing at madrid wouldn't surprise me if he's sold
