Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [23 - 25th February 2013]

I.... I agree with DM?!?!??!?!
.

It's a worrying feeling when that happens!

I am going to construct a graph to demonstrate that views in football become more extreme over the course of the season and this correlates to agreeing with DM more over the season...

Haha, I would love to see that. The decent from pre season hope to post season dispair.

I think Bale needs a bit more time, he's having an outstanding season and does appear to be improving every year, so maybe you could call him world-class given time, but I think it's extremely premature to mention him in the same breath as Ronaldo and Messi. They've been banging in 40+ goals per season for years now and both have better goal per game ratios for their respective teams.

Bale might be like that in a couple of years, but he's not there yet. After all, the fact is that he's scored exactly the same amount of goals as Michu in the prem and I've not heard anyone call Michu world-class yet, let alone compare him to Messi and Ronaldo.

Bale is simply a good player in good form, the way the media and Sky Sports are talking about him is frankly laughable. Wait until this form fades and then you can judge him more accurately. That said his shot last night was a good hit tbf

He's clearly nowhere near RvP but you expect the Spurs fans to be irrational as he's the first above average player they've had in decades

He is world class at the moment, no doubt about it. He would walk into any squad in the world. Whether he has the passion to do it for years and years is another thing, it would seem he does though by looking at how he acts.

The people banging on about stats have got to remember he was a LB for his whole career.

What? The LB bit?.. most of his career he was LB...not the last few seasons tho obviously.

Define most of his career? Because for the past 3 years he's been a winger and prior to that the majority of his appearances for Spurs was also as a winger.

You're like Frank and been taken in by a myth, under no circumstances could anyone who's followed Bale's career say he's played the majority of it as a LB.

Since he was a nipper his natural position was LB. It's only the last few seasons he's been pushed forward and told to get past his man. A lot catching up to do compared to some like Ronaldo who's played that postion his whole life. That was my point..

That's just a random article i've found which seem to label him a left back as well.

He's played the last 4 seasons (that's 09/10 through till now exclusively as a winger). Before that (seasons 07/08 & 08/09) only 10 of his 24 appearances for Spurs were at LB. Simply put you're wrong, under no circumstances could anyone who knows the facts say Bale for his entire career or even most of his career has been a LB.

I'm talking about prior to signing for Spurs, ..he was signed as a left back, He was also signed as a LB for Spurs too. Obviously as a nipper, if your being told by professional clubs and managers that your a LB then your mindset is going to be of a LB. It's only recently (like you say, 3 seasons or what not) that he's had the license of a winger. And it's only this season that he's had the license of a goal scorer, comparing him to Messi or Ronaldo who have had that installed in them for many more seasons is incomparable.

whoever said michu has scored the same as bale would do well to remember that michu is a striker.

RVP is impressing at united now but there was a period when he wasn't, all be it a comparitively short one.

people do realise bale has progressed for years, right? it's not like his cl hat-trick was last year.

By comparatively short I assume you mean 3 games? Because that's the longest he's gone without a goal this season.
