Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [23 - 25th February 2013]

Bale isn't the best player in the League, he's in great form mind, apart from the falling over and getting booked for it.

Tottenham to hold on to a top four spot?

Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool are all going for a top four spot too. Should be interesting to see who gets it.

oh here we go. you've got your knickers in a twist again over your blatent jealousy over bale.

maybe the point i was making was the 'bale dives' thing was blown out of proportion by haters?

I've got nothing against Bale, it's your logic that's the problem.

One instance where Bale has the chance to throw himself to the ground but doesn't doesn't put whether he dives or not 'to bed' like you suggest. The fact you follow that statement up with asking when he was last booked for diving then suggests that it's something he used to do but now no longer does? Quite a prediction given he's probably got at least another 10 years of his playing career to go.

so when was the last time bale was booked for diving? was he booked last season for diving?

there's no reason to bring up a brief spell where he got booked for diving when he's a top bloke who is in the best form of his career and is providing top entertainment for everyone.

join his fb page and feel the love :D
Gareth Bale
Thanks for all the kind messages tonight! Great performance and team spirit from the lads to get us into 3rd position. Always nice to get the winner in a London derby too!! 11 more league games to go but we'll try not to leave it so late in them :p

Chelsea are ****ing atrocious that was another gutless performance against a side who I didn't see us getting anything out of anyway (strongest & most organised side I've seen this season) but they could've at least tried. The sooner this season finishes the better so we can get rid of Interim and bring in someone who can at least inspire the team, we played scatty under RDM but at least it wasn't dull like this crap.

Bale is simply unbelievable at the moment, best player in the PL for me and that makes me gag saying it.
Chelsea need all the help they can get if they're going to finish top 4 so I hope Spuds hammer Arsenal at the weekend, that makes me gag too although not quite as much.

Wonder where Spurs would be in the league this year without Bale and his goals.

Wonder where Man Utd would be in the league this year without RVP and his goals.

Wonder where Liverpool would be in the league this year without Suarez and his goals.

Wonder where Swansea would be in the league this year without Michu and his goals.

*etc* :p

Got to be honest, I dont subscribe to the whole world class argument.

He has been in the best form of his career so far no doubt, and has scored some great goals, but mostly against poor teams (I know he ripped Rio, before anyone says anything).

How can he be considered world class when he hasn't won anything, or done anything of merit?

Ronaldo wasn't considered world class until he had won the league and proven himself by being top scorer etc.

Its naive to compare him to the likes of Ronaldo and Messi, who have been at the top for a considerable amount of time.

He hasnt had the chance to win anything as he has been with Tottenham

Im sure he won't be there for much longer, especially if Tottenham dont make the Champions League this year. He deserves to win things.

World class is one of those funny terms that people understand differently.

He's an awesome player, no doubt, and if he continues like this he's going to be one of the best players in the world - no question about that. His new, drifting style of play is fairly similar to what Ronaldo does and it's working for him.

I personally take world class to mean that someone has the ability to play in pretty much any team in the world - and Bale does. On current and possible future form he'd be stronger for Barcelona than Pedro/Alexis Sanchez... Real Madrid, maybe - it depends how much you rate Di Maria, etc.

Silly argument especially given context.

Messi and Ronaldo haven't won the world cup. Does that mean they are not world class? Their club teams are exceptional even without them, does the fact that they haven't made their national teams victorious mean they are not world class? Of course not. Bale plays for a pretty middling team in Europe and is helping is challenge teams like Man Utd (biggest club in world), Man City and Chelsea (£££) and Arsenal (closest comparison but with a huge stadium). We have overtaken Liverpool too. Bale is not the only reason behind this (Levy deserves huge credit) but Bale is dragging the team to a much higher standard with his performances against world class teams. I think that makes him world class.

Bale is not the greatest of all time but he is definitely in the top 10 players in world football st the moment. This isn't a purple streak of tap ins but a series of match winning performances that show the promise he demonstrated against Inter is reaching its potential and that level of performance is winning matches against all manner of teams.

Get 2nd and Europa....he will stay.
Get 3rd and Semis/final....he will stay
Get spanked by Inter and 4th? He will leave.

Just my opinion, I think he can see that Spurs really are building, great teams are built around players like him.

Given what you have said then surely that means no player other than those in world cup winning squads can be considered 'world class'?

You have misunderstood what I have said.

I absolutely believe he is an incredible talent, still young and is going to no doubt go on to be one of the worlds best. But how can be he considered world class because he is having one good season?

Is michu world class? he has had a good season scoring lots of goals but you dont hear everyone saying he is 'world class'.

As robbo said, its a stupid phrase that the media likes to throw about with no real defined meaning.

That being said, I hope giggsy has a word with him and helps get him to old trafford ;)
