Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 27th August 2018]

First half wasn't too dissimilar to the first half vs West Ham - for the most part we played well but we weren't 100% on it in the final 3rd. Second half performance was rubbish though, lacking any sort of control. Without playing well we're 3 from 3 without conceding a goal though and hopefully we'll find our rythm in attack.

Emery refuses to play both Auba and Laca together which doesn’t make a lot of sense in that Auba isn’t really a middle striker...he plays slightly off left with Laca being the middle striker.

Emery needs to get this team sorted soon, otherwise arsenal fans including me won’t stand for these kind of performances we are turning in lately.

Our defence is an utter ******* disgrace...
3 games and it has already started. Lol.

I thought we was going to give him a couple of seasons? People cannot even give the guy a couple of games...

Lol I’m still patient about Emery and what he wants to do with the squad. Giving him a couple of seasons is ridiculous and silly.

Anyhow after today’s game, I’m hoping our performances get better in the next game or next few games.

Our defence is atrocious...that needs to improve quickly.

I disagree. Cannot expect a new manager to come in after 22 years of wenger and turn things around in a season, let alone a few games.

I'm happy to give him a couple of seasons, both Klopp and Guardiola needed at least a season to get their teams going so 2 for Emery should be enough to at least make an improvement on what we've seen so far.

I agree with Yas about Laca and Auba starting, it's almost as baffling as Torreira not starting, both have been subbed on in all 3 of our games now and perform better than the players they replace. Laca and Torreira should be starting, and Leno being brought in to sit on the bench is also an interesting move. Hopefully he's saving Leno for cup and EL games to give him some time to adjust before starting next season, if not then it's another interesting move from Emery.

Klopp took over a side that was absolutely dross and didnt have a transfer window dont forget. There was almost an instant impact vs Spurs...the closing down was evident straight away.

Arsenal won which is the main thing but Guendozi (i feel like im bullying the lad because i slate him often) needs to be miles away from starting and Torreira looks sluggish. Id drop Ramsey back into midfield and play two up top.

Id give him 18 months personally and hope he gets some money in Jan to get a quality player in the middle.

I disagree with you entirely on Guendozi - I think he's been the standout performer for Arsenal in the three games so far. Maybe it's just because I'm comparing him to Xhaka when he was playing that role and it's a novelty to see an Arsenal player actually winning the ball back in midfield again. Torreira hasn't made quite the same impact, but then we haven't seen much of him so far and it may take him a couple of months to settle in.

The biggest problem Arsenal face at the moment is in defence - neither Sokratis or Mustafi are blessed with much pace, which leaves us exposed to the through ball when playing a high line. That is something Emery can fix tactically over time on the training ground.

My feeling is that we won't improve overnight but we should see a steady evolution over the coming months, with everything coming together around Christmas. This season needs to be seen as one of transition where we can expect a degree of inconsistency. A top 6 finish in these conditions would be a reasonable expectation. One or two new signings over the winter and summer windows and then we'll see what Emery's Arsenal looks like, and whether they can build towards a genuine title challenge again

Keys and Gray still have it in for Rafa I see. Earlier this week Gray's doing an interview praising Mike Ashley and now Key's is tweeting "if Fat Sam played like this" nonsense.
