Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 28th October 2014]

Costa costa less presuming the deal goes through, isnt 29 bordering 34 and has a strike rate in the premiership fait accompli miles above falcao...

Lord jaffa said he was fast i was just wondering in comparison to what? Robin van persie? Because on all metrics he is worse than Costa so far..

You seem genuinely incapable of considering any outside factors, it's the same in all your posts. Why even bother? You do nothing but slate all of our players, they're rubbish, too expensive, not good enough, other players are better. Even when we won things you did it, so don't use form as an excuse.

When we really get down to it, your alternatives to players we've signed in the past have been frankly embarrassing. N'Zogbia, etc.

Will we have this every week, win, lose or draw you're just going to moan for days after the games have ended over trivial nonsense? We'll have to start locking the threads, it's really, really boring.

surely he's a troll... no one can possibly be this negative ALL THE TIME about his team (DM aside)..

and even then, with all the negativity, there's literally no logic/sense/reason to his points, it simply 'they're all rubbish we should've kept chadwick/sign someone terrible/whatever'.

He's like a poor man's DM.

Watch clips of him and he is very fast on and off the ball. He's just getting fitness back give him a chance! Yes he is undoubtedly considerably faster than Van persie and Rooney with the ball.

What he did historically before he turns 30 abd before his last injury means little unless he can show that again. That's why it's always a bad idea ti spend 50 million on someone who's 29 and coming off a big injury. Thankfully we only have him on loan so we will get to see for real over the course of the season.

But if you were to compare costa and falxao right now, one looks like a potentially brilliant buy the other much less so..

Hence comparisons between him qnd Costa which btw weren't started by me are silly at this moment in time because there is no comparison.

as for robbos jibe, at the time nzogbia was a decent prospect, fairly cheap. Instead we got like Ashley young - embarrassment to the club, played tom cleverly who's so good we're about to let him leave for effectively free transfer, played phil jones in midfield which again was frankly embarrassing. So while you might say it wasn't a great suggestion it could have been more useful than not buying him when you consider what we have done alternatively. ..

But at the same time we totally should have played cleverly in a competative football match, played phil jones, rafael, darren fletcher as centre midfielders.

I'm not saying we could have bought better, but it would have been preferable to buy someone than play any of those mentioned above. ..at the time our mindset was to buy okay players who don't cost too much so he fitted into that ethos.

At the time in what 2009 i didn't know he would take such injuries but if you're honestly clinging on to that and think i take it as a kind of insult well i hate to break it to you but...it doesnae bother me.

Why dont you challenge my critique of falcao if that's got your panties all bunched up as that at least has relevance to this thread before you try to derail it..

Falcao is coming back from a major injury, he hasn't played as much as Costa and he's playing in a team that haven't played together much, where as Costa has just been stuck at the tip of Chelsea's already very good team.

It's a stupid discussion to have this early in the season.

That's why falcao is so risky and potentially unreliable.

It's fair to say costa is cheaper, younger, plays better even with injury.

But the point was someone said we have pace up front im just not seeing it right now. Even if falcao got 'fit' he still turns 30 next year anyway so will slow down from his peak. That's just age. Rvp already hit that brick wall.

Our attack is purring at the moment.
We can basically score against any team (including Chelsea). Southampton should be interesting, but I am confident of at least 1 goal against them, too.
I'm not sure our attack is a worry.
Defence maybe, but our attack?

Falcao hasnt even had a chance to show his "stuff". Once he has had about 20 games, this will give us a good indication of whether or not this guy is any good or not.

20 games?
Surely someone who was 'any good' wouldn't need that many games to show his worth.

It's not like it's a big deal if Falcao doesn't work out. I personally think he will, but if he doesn't then we just ship him back at the end of the 12 months.

Before you brand someone a failure and send him packing, you need to give them half a season.

I remember when we had Diego Forlan, he had 2-3 seasons to prove himself.
This was Fergie's choice.

In the case of Chelsea ;), it took many seasons for the Chelsea manager to accept that Torres was a non-scoring striker. Mourinho himself played Torres for the whole of last season and publicly stated that Torres was not so great.

If Fergie and Mourinho are giving strikers 20-40 games to prove themselves, who are we to disagree?

EDIT: I just did a quick check on Torres. This dude scored 20 goals in 110 appearances, for Chelsea. How on Earth did this guy command a £50M price tag? This is a serious question.
As a comparison, Ruud Van Nistlerooy: 95 goals in 150 apps, for Man Utd.
