Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 28th October 2014]

Sanchez has been really solid so far. Still hopeful we can pull one back soon and possibly go on to win.

Cleverly on the other hand...those crosses were dire.

It's not as simple as teaching a player to play a certain role. Sometimes players simply aren't physically capable of doing it. Mourinho couldnt teach Mata to do the job he wanted at Chelsea mainly because Mata physically isn't capable of working at a high tempo for a sustained period or covering the ground that somebody like Oscar could.

The above probably answers your question about cm's. Poch wants high energy centre mids that can get about the pitch, pressing and closing down the opposition. You'll know better than me but none of your CM's strike me as being capable of playing in the way Schneiderlin did for example.

But isn't that system totally different to the one at Spurs, namely a DoF to buy players + coach to coach and do tactics with the players he is given?

Saying that we haven't improved from last year is quite ridiculous. United are playing much better football and look much happier and more attacking minded. Last season Moyes took over a squad with a huge amount of experience that had just won the league and made a mess of it. This season we have bought a lot of players but we have lost 3/4 of our defence and Giggs in the midfield. Thats a lot of experience to lose.

If we had a defence like Chelseas then we would be up near the top of the league without a doubt. When teams don't think your defence is weak, their whole game plan changes and you actually have to defend less. Ours is seen as a weak point so teams have a go and they get results when they do.

Having a weak defence means the whole team is unbalanced and not as free to go forwards as they should be.

We have changed hugely from last season and improved midfield / attack considerably but also weakened in defence. If we sort out the defence we will be competing again next season. I really have no idea how you can have such a one dimensional view of the team and simply say "we are on the same points as last season therefore nothing is better". Last seasons football was just depressing.

Last season moyes took over a team that had almost fluked the league due to the wheels falling off every other team.

Rio was done, Vidic nearly so. The board didn't want to spend 150 milliom they didn't think they needed to.

rvp and rio and Rooney sulked and destroyed the team from the inside. I didn't want Moyes to begin with but when you look at the team he was forced to play, ie carrick, cleverly, valencia then that is quite a good excuse for some poor results. Something I've been saying for years, under talented players being carried by a high value strike force.

Now 150 million later.. less points better players. It's strange.

Progress is getting Herrera within a few weeks of taking over as boss rather than all summer and not getting him

Progress is getting balancing the squad when there is too much of Player X but not enough of Player Y unless of course you thought we had too much pace up front last year.

Last year we weren't desperate enough to spend on herrera.

Unless rvp and Rooney somehow got faster over the summer, we've actually got slower up front this year by removing welbeck and installing falcao instead. ..maybe im watching a different football to you?

Ok maybe I was too specific when I said 'pace up front' Let me rephrase and elaborate

Addition of pace from DiMaria has meant we have more pace attacking

Addition of Herrera has seen us move the ball and retail the ball higher up the pitch. He tracks back with pace which is more than we had in central midfield last year

Yeah so that's an improvement in quality by omitting Carrick, fletcher and cleverly who i lambasted for the last few years. Plus valencia has seen little game time lately another player i said we should never have bought but became a demi god on here after a few hard crosses one season.

Had we bought as many multi million pound midfielders last season we would have done loads better then. And would surely have even more points than we do this season?
