Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th August 2017]

What an absolute embarrassment. Liverpool played well but this was 100% down to us playing into their hands. Doesn't matter what players are out there or what formation they are in, we can't defend and we can't create, players heads are down and there is no way Wenger will bring them round. I'm so mad that he got rewarded with a 2 year contract for his worst ever season. That's just filtered down to the players, it doesn't matter what the result is. 3 games in, 3 points we don't really deserve and 8 goals conceded. Yet we still want to sell more defenders. Massive shake up is needed. So raged up at the moment I think ill stop here before I fall into a fit of sweary gibberish.

I was done with Wenger after the 2015 FA Cup win. His latest new contract for failure last season was a joke.

I hope Sanchez leaves ASAP. He doesn't deserve this old fool 'managing' him.

The fans are paying their money to fund the stuff they see though, whilst I agree that they could refuse to go (further adding to the toxicity?) I think the club should do more to connect with the fans - they're clearly a passionate bunch.

I don't disagree really, this is the biggest problem between the fans and the club, the general thinking, is, the higher the season ticket price, the further up the table you should be, and it makes sense, but the money is not being reinvested in the squad, it's being reinvested on the stadium mainly. Would the fans have the same mentality if they were paying season ticket prices that Everton do? I don't think they would, it completely greys the whole thing.

That defending for Burnley's goal! 10 yards in Spurs half and Burnley play one pass straight through the middle of Spurs' defence.

What if Arsenal finished 8th and won the Europa League?
What about if finished 8th and no trophies?? Would you still be ok with that??
I actually have a lot of respect for Ozil coming out and saying this

Not many footballers would

It's nice of him to apologise for today's performance but what's the point if it keeps happening??

Sorry we will do better next time then when next week comes it's the same.

I fully appreciate him apologising but unless the team improves massively, it's just an empty apology.

I think the club should do more to connect with the fans - they're clearly a passionate bunch. I wasn't aware of what Pool do until Baz explained it but that is exactly what should be done. Football is so backwards compared to many (most?) sports in some many aspects of the sport and it's ridiculous, especially considering the money involved.

Look at Nascar, the whole show is basically put on to put the fans at the heart of it. For example:

For all the talk of toxicity from the fans etc, they have every single damn right to complain. They are the ones that are the highest prices in the country to watch their team play and when they play with no passion or guts. Then what do people expect?? Fans to just walk away and say ahh well it's ok we suck but we are ok with that. Of course they aren't, surely the fans deserve better but yet it seems like our board just don't give a **** about our fans.

All we get every year from Gazidis and co is we are going to compete for titles/trophies and we are in the market to sign big players. But on the field, it's insipid performances from players that really don't look like they want to play for us or Wenger.

The point I was making is the season isn't even started yet, Arsenal could potentially win a few trophies, say an FA Cup & Europa Trophy, what happens then to the people saying Wenger out after 3 games? It's daft.

I don't expect fans to not say anything, definitely not, it was an embarrassing performance, but my 1st thought isn't to sack the manager. Not when you've only played 3 games as well.

We started the transfer widows well.... but if he wanted to get players out presumably to get some new players shouldn't he have done this way earlier?

I still don't understand why we are selling Mustafi. The Ox? He's good.

today Ramsay and Xhaka where shambolic. But it's the managers fault. Training, kicking but when needed to, team selection, tactics, attitude etc... all done to Wenger.

Thierry Henry said it best. The whole squad is comfortable. No one is afraid for their place in the team, no one respects the manager or will give their all for him and the team whereas it looks and feels like the Liverpool and Chelsea players would run themselves into the ground for their manager and the team. Everyone is too settled and with very few players coming in to challenge them for their positions in the team, is it any wonder?

I think it says it all really when Wenger was asked why Lacazette wasn't starting today, said he's still in the adaptation mode....ermm correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he score within a minute of his first game?? Also he should have had a goal in the Stoke game, he wasn't offside from what I have seen...if he was then it's probably the tightest offside I have ever seen given.

He did the same with Perez, who now wants out because Wenger didn't play him enough and thought he's not good enough.

Wouldn't surprise me if he does the same with Lacazette and he decides he wants out because Wenger has absolutely no clue on how to manage players.

Lacazette put the ball in the back of the net twice, they are on the spot finishes though, they have nothing to do with tactical work and integration. Perhaps that is what Wenger meant by needing more time to adapt, adapt to the team and the way they play, it's quite normal.
Regarding Gabriel, could he be homesick? Keown wouldn't know that information to be fair. It's not like Gabriel got a good reception at Arsenal either, fans were always laying into him, maybe just got fed up and said I don't like it here. who knows!

It's not just the first 3 games though is it? Isn't this just an extension from last year when most fans wanted him gone and he created a circus that eventually led to him staying?

Exactly. We were a shambles at the end of the season and have now progressed to diabolical. There should have been a defined transer plan which should have been resolved way before the season started and the tactics on the pitch should have been locked down. Transfer window has been a joke again and no one seems to know what they're doing (or caring in some cases) on the pitch. The only way Wenger could have come out of this well was to hit the ground running, he has done the opposite. It's only going to get worse too.

Surely to adapt to the team and the way they play who actually need to play in the team, its no good sitting on the bench.

Anyway we would have lost if he had started the team is in a complete mess, half the team wants away, yet they get to start for the team, players playing out of position, ballerina at LWB!!!

Complete shambles.

Wenger has left me confused with his selections. Why is bellerin in the lwb role, monreal a cb and OX a rwb? Seems very strange.

Whether you agree with the reasoning or not, I think it was obvious why Wenger left Arsenal's new signings out yesterday. An away game at Liverpool isn't like most other games, particularly since Klopp took over. The atmosphere and intensity that we were going to start the game at wouldn't have been something that they'd experienced before and it's clear (imo at least) that Wenger wanted players that had experienced it before and were less likely to be overwhelmed by it.

Yep, that's the big big problem, we have so many player's who don't want to be at the club but get to start games, all the players who want to be here and give there all (not many by the look's of it) must be wondering what an earth is going on, its like a disease spreading in the team.

I feel sorry for players like Giroud, ok he is not the greatest, but did he not state he want's to stay at Arsenal recently, he scores the odd important goal for us why is he sitting on the bench behind Welbeck!!

That's why you start Bellerin at LWB.

Given that the only alternative was bringing in that LB you signed in the summer (and lets be fair, he looked **** so far) then assuming what I said re Wenger's thinking was right, yes that's why Bellerin played LWB.

Again, I'm not saying Wenger was right or wrong, just that I'm pretty sure he didn't just do it for a laugh. Imo it was a calculated decision to leave out the new signings in that game.
