Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 29th November 2011]

With their pace and ability to beat a man, I'd put Suarez/Bellamy down to beat Komps/Lescott 9 times out of 10.

Thing is Suarez isn't actually that quick, I was watching him the other day against Chelsea and there was one time he was ahead of the defender and yet still got caught. He has good dribbling ability and movement but in a pure foot race I'd say he is distinctly ordinary. As you say though, feed it into feet with Bellamy alongside and he could cause trouble, just don't expect him to be able to make the most of balls over the top (compared to say someone like Darren Bent).

I'd be surprised if Blackburn stay up, why would they give Kean a new contract, unless it has a smaller payout in the case they were going to fire him, or some clause they can enact to fire him without paying him off.
It must be something like that. It wasn't a contract extension just a renegotiation of his existing deal.

Thing is if you are about to be fired, or think you will, why would you, lets say he was on 10k a week, with what a year, or 2 years left, sign a new deal for even 50k a week with a clause that says you get no pay out if you get fired.

You'd be giving up a lot more than you gain if you get fired, and any sane owners would fire him.

Whole thing is very very odd.

You could even suggest they were trying to do a Newcastle, go down, offload the crap players to get spending under control and plan to come back as a lean club thats profitable.

But do Blackburn have that many stars, if they were saddled with Yakuba on 60+k a week that is one thing, but they've only just bought him in. Very very odd which ever way you think about it.

As I typed Blackburn let in another crap goal.

EDIT:- hmm, it could be a formal contract that gives kean job security and a decent wage, but fundamentally says the owners have control and can pick the team and choose who to buy.

If you look at some of the truly ridiculous stuff that has gone on lately with managers suing their old clubs because the owners dared interfere in their own companies? Maybe Kean basically signed on long term but as a figure head and nothing more, and he's happy enough to get paid to do that?

surely whole point of a figure head is someone respect worthy (externally)? Keen is a nice enough guy but with the results so far I cant see the respect being there?

MAN UTD v NEWCASTLE
Man Utd: De Gea, Fabio Da Silva, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Giggs, Young, Rooney, Hernandez. Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Smalling, Park, Valencia, Macheda, Gibson.Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, Obertan, Cabaye, Guthrie, Gutierrez, Ben Arfa, Ba. Subs: Elliot, Santon, Lovenkrands, Perch, Gosling, Shola Ameobi, Sammy Ameobi.
Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffordshire)

ewww at Gibson even being on the bench , and not sure about Macheda either to be fair

At least Rooney is starting, surprised Rio is capable of a third game inside a week hopefully he is fully up for it
edit - will be very difficult game imo

Figure head as in, not a PR famous name to bring them credibility, but any name for a front man but who won't do the job.

IE Some company with a new product gets Beckham to be a figure head and use his name, both sides win out of that.

In this case, the owners need someone who can legally be manager, but won't actually be the real manager, here you need someone not good enough to be a normal manager who would accept essentially a fake job, but Kean gets paid and the owners get to be manager, so again they both win.

I don't think its a good idea but its almost the only thing that makes sense, just because Kean signing a new contract that makes it easier to be fired for less money, makes no sense for him, at all.

Anyway, Rochina has looked quite decent today, the ONLY blackburn player who has, great run earlier, done some half decent work and got the goal. To be fair Holliet has been really pretty good this season as well, some nice goals, good shot on him, smart player. Those two, and Samba are the only players worth a damn in that team any more.

Beckham has fronted many successful ad campaigns - ie he is respected in the role!!!

Doesnt make sense either way - I doubt Kean (from a self respect point of view) would want to do it, and its a gamble that the owners would do any better a job at something they probably know little about

So imo it makes even less sense

Not when he misses more chances than he getsm but I guess he is a better proposition than Macheda........when did he last even appear on the bench, must have been a while ago?I dont recall him playing a senior match for quite some time

No disrespect to WB, but if Spurs have to cope without VdV and Modric, this is probably the perfect match to do it lol

That's bound to happen with a confidence player who gets played seemingly at random. It's very odd.

Give him a run of games and if nothing changes, then fair enough, but until then he's been hard done by IMO.

Where is phil jones ??

Having a well deserved rest I would think.

Im not sure if he has missed a single match for Utd (or the two recent England games) in a few months, and Dec is going to be busy (esp with Utd down to midfield barebones)

Fair enough - on the other hand, today is going to be a very tough game (with how few NU have conceeded this season so far), so with such a confidence player (who missed his last few shots last game) he wasnt going to start, and sitting on the bench for 80 odd minutes (rarely does SAF change much before this unless there is an injury) - its not really going to do Berba any good either

He just doesnt cut it at the level Utd need him to be at consistantly

Geezus to this day i still dont get how we lost to the almighty blackburn:p....they just got spanked 3-1 by Stoke lol.

Anyhow am hoping for an easy 3 pts against Fulham...fingers crossed we get a result from that game as we need to make up ground against the leaders.

Also Fletcher dropped as well with Gibson preferred on the bench

I swear Fergie just tosses a coin for the teamsheet now!

Berba and Fletcher in line for QF CC this week then?

Is Fletcher now fully (match) fit after his virus - maybe two games in a few days is a little too much? Pure guess, but possible reason

Premonition of Gibson and Fletcher in CM against Crystal Palace edit - with Macheda and Berba upfront , Valencia and Park out wide
