Encroachment is only penalised if the offending player either clears or scores the rebound. It kind of makes sense or else you'll be retaking pretty much every pen.

What's happening to the game I love? VAR is turning it into a complete farce but it's not helped by players play acting at every opportunity. As a neutral I'd say that was never a penalty but the slightest touch is now penalised.

Officiating seems to be worse now, officials mustn’t bother paying as much attention as VAR will sort it

I'm interested to see the penalty incident again, I'm sure he stood on his trailing foot and personally I'd feel annoyed if that was my team and it didn't get given.

I would agree with that, scared to make a decision so just hangs around until he hears VAR is looking at it, boom get out of jail free card

Yep clearly stood on his foot, I think it's the delayed reactions and theatrics that make it look like a dive.

Indeed, he's definitely made an absolute meal of it but as I saw it, standing on his foot is standing on his foot, it ought to be penalised.

I think he had already over hit the ball though and was only going to be right on the line. he wasn't going anywhere so went down when his foot got stood on. VAR bought it. He could have stayed up if he wanted to keep the ball in.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. A foul is a foul imo and standing on someone's foot is well within that boundary as I see it.

If we take the attitude that a foul is only a foul depending on how the opponent is impacted is only going to lead to more play acting as they'll never get given fouls if they try to ride them out.
