Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26th - 27th December 2019]

watching the penalty again. Mahrez actually sticks his foot out into the defenders path. They're running side by side and then mahrez steps to the right and ends up getting his foot stood on. One of those moves where the attacking player does something that leads to the contact.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. A foul is a foul imo and standing on someone's foot is well within that boundary as I see it.

If we take the attitude that a foul is only a foul depending on how the opponent is impacted is only going to lead to more play acting as they'll never get given fouls if they try to ride them out.

Exactly if he had thought about it the ball was going out of play. No need to stamp on his foot. Pure defensive error and got punished for it.

VAR needs to be giving a foul over every blade of grass then and not just in the box, players in the middle of the park are kicking and pulling each other to try and get to the ball but nothing, get in the box and dive like a fairy and boom in comes VAR definite foul and penalty, sorry if it's a foul in the box then VAR has to give fouls outside as well and turn the game into even more of a farce than it already is.

VAR has completely destroyed the game and how they can say 7 minutes is beyond me, took over 5 minutes for Ederson to leave the pitch and Bravo to come on so they are effectively saying the penalty and subsequent re-takes only took 2 minutes extra.

The ball is only in play for around 60 minutes every 90, do we really want 30 odd minutes of stoppage time?

No it doesn't, as fouling outside the box doesn't have the same associated level of punishment and potential for affecting a game result.

First half stoppage time has always been low, that's nothing new.

So it's only a foul now if it's in the box, rubbish, if it's a foul it's a foul irrespective where it's on the pitch and this is where the issue is.

Excellent 2nd goal by City but that's a hell of a hit from Traore

No, I didn't say that, I said VAR isn't necessary to adjudicate every foul because outside the box doesn't have such a big impact, as its not resulting in penalty decisions.
