Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [27th September - 1st October 2014]

United got away with it, started well but fell off.

That's Rooney done for 3 games at the very least, maybe more. I don't know what the hell he was thinking when he kicked out. Professional foul is tugging the player back in that situation, what he did was deliberately lash out. Absolute stupidity.

West Ham could have easily gotten a point out of that game, United & Liverpool look shaky. 3rd & 4th places are up for grabs for anyone who wants them.

I have a bet on Spurs. Given their record against Arsenal it's unlikely but £2 to win £212.. anything happens at a derby right? :p

FT 2-1 and 6 straight wins, Koeman \o/

Yeah I agree, Southampton are crap :p

They just needed a couple games to get going upfront with several big changes, they've done that and are now working very well.

Brentford beat Leeds 2-0 at home which, well if you pretend Leeds are still a huge team is a huge result :p It is really a good result.

But the biggest shock of the day, Fulham actually won a game, of football........ :o

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Chambers, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Wilshere, Arteta, Ramsey, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Welbeck.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Naughton, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose; Capoue, Mason; Chadli, Eriksen, Lamela; Adebayor.

No Sanchez? That's a weird one, he's not injured as he's on the bench.

We actually won

Should've scored a few more too, couple of sitters missed. Subs by Kit Symons changed the game, fair play to him!

Hopefully our recovery starts now.

It's almost as if people think it's impossible for us to beat any of these more difficult teams, or even get a draw. I wouldn't back us with our injuries at the moment but we'll have a chance, especially against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Its a month until we play Chelsea (at home), and while Im not expecting any points, it will be interesting to see the performance the players can put in - especially if the medical team can get a few more fit before then.

Not saying Everton or West Brom before that are going to be easy, definitely not the case - but with Chelsea and City games back to back it will hopefully be a more solid performance vs those two.

Not excusing Rooney at all, but its not exactly as though WH were averse to putting the same kind of challenges into Utd players

I don't really know, he effectively dropped him for that previous game as well, I saw a lot of articles on how by dropping Sanchez it meant Wenger could play Ozil in the middle........ which I thought were basically nuts seeing as one doesn't need to effect the other. Wenger has his own ideas about everything though, he does seem to randomly decide who can't play together in certain circumstances and makes loads of really odd team choices.

Ox... he'll probably score just to wind me up but he's been woeful for a long time. I love how he tries to play, he's aggressive, enthusiastic and provides that drive going forwards down the wing we need but he just produces almost nothing at the end of those runs. His shooting is dire, passing pretty poor and crossing is woeful.

Arsenal need to spend a month doing training on how to shoot from outside the box because Ox, Ozil, Ramsey, Giroud and Cazorla are all completely cack at it.

Not entirely sure from that line up where Wenger intends to play everyone anyway, Ozil out wide again, or Ramsey, either of which is a terrible choice.

Indeed. If it had to be a choice of Ozil or Alexis out wide, it's got to be Alexis every time.

Would have preferred:

Ramsey Wilshere
Ox Ozil Alexis
Welbeck

I still expect that starting XI to be good enough see off Spurs though.

It's hard to call a line up, I'd probably say it's time to try Chambers as a DM(I'm under the impression he's played there a couple times before and is considered okay there) with Bellarin right back and what you have there except Ramsey for Chambers. Ramsey is really poor defensively and has been awful, really awful so far this season. We need to get back to the thing which Wenger hates, dropping players in **** form and actually giving them a reason to improve, the motivation to play better.

I would say Arteta over Ramsey for the defensive role but he's been so poor for so long now he's just not good enough any more. If it turned out Chambers could be a great DM then that is a problem solved, if he's crap there, lets find out frankly.
