Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th April - 2nd May 2012]

Nasri had a great game last night, he's looked good the last few months. Kompany was an absolute beast though, love him, seems like a really smart guy too from interviews

And the problem with ANOTHER such abject performance that is viewed by millions is the knock on effect -

People have been knocking city, they come in with big money and wages, but they dont win anything right... right? They only go to city for the money..not the glory...is often the rhetoric we see on here from desperate UTD fans.

Actually, if you look at both teams, the head to head stats, the performances - can you honestly say that player XZY from france/spain/brazil etc wont have seen this Man Utd vs City match, nor have knowledge of the one previously in the season?

City have surpassed UTD in terms of player talent and this season they have proven it to a T.

If both City and UTD come in to buy you as a player, do you sign for the team offering less money, who lost twice to their rivals, once 6-1. With a manager who looks completely bonkers.

You might think about tradition, but honestly what good is tradition compared to guaranteed monies, a team with better caliber of players and at least the same chance of collecting silverware over the next season? I honestly fear for the future.

I appreciate that you're gutted at potentially losing the title, but you do know how spoiled a few of you are coming off

Yep just you.

A really good Prospect If he is going to be the foundation of the United and England defence as so many current and ex-pro's suggest then he needs to be played at Centre Half

just me then? oh well

the only stand out thing i've ever seen jones do was way back in september when you beat bolton and he created a goal by going on a run (although he never really looked in control)

other than that he's been a real liability at times but what get's me was the price, either blackburn pulled your pants down or he really is worth nearly £20m as a teenage defender. time will obviously tell but as someone has already said, it was too big a step up by the looks of it and he should've been loaned straight back to blackburn.

as for park, he was a real work horse 2-3 yrs ago but he's not like that anymore due to reduced matches and age, those iron lungs seem to have run out of steam. but, was he not bought to get into the korean market and helps bring an incredible amount of revenue into the club? didn't you have another korean player called dong(?) who had his contract terminated?

Fergie got the starting line up all wrong but would have been very interesting to see Valencia and Young on for Park/Giggs basically at half time(frankly Park should have been off after 30 mins seeing how useless he was).

There is just no excuse for making the final change in the 83rd minute, just embarrassing.

Ultimately, if City win the title it will be because Fergie was scared to lose and played a team designed to not lose. Winners don't do that, Barcelona lost a game, but they've also won game after game, title after title by never being afraid to lose and never going out to defend and get lucky. It's a losing tactic no idea what Fergie was thinking or how such a "winner" of a manager could ever end up resorting to that kind of tactic.

I have said it before, and i will say it again.

Man United simply do not have enough world class talent in their side. They are a great team but that surely only gets you so far. We need ABILITY.

We have two players who i would say are just about world class..Vidic and Rooney....and Vidic has been out all season and Rooney is just too hit and miss. Berbatov is probably up there as well but for some reason, despite being last seasons joint top goal scorer....we don't play him :(

Scholes and Giggs are world class but they are just too old to cope with the big teams these days and will probably be gone/retired next season.

Fergie, seriously, BUY SOME WORLD CLASS PLAYERS. I know he thinks that everyone is too expensive these days and that there is no good value in the transfer market anymore but that sort of thinking will just lead to our demise.

the mind games have worked on him. he wanted to hold on to what he had (understandable) but the team selection was defeatist and immediatley gave city the edge.

still, it's not over yet. but if united do win it, it just proves what a farce the league has been this year.

dm look its a home game. the odds tell the story.

you'd always back the better team to win a home game surely? im not gutted that we lost the game. well okay i am, but i never expected US to win.

the truth is we should have put it to bed before now. all we had to do was win our home games where we were the heavy favourites and this fixture would have been meaningless.

lets not disguise the way we have played for 75% of the season i.e poorly but scraping results.

you're right of course. when we won the champs league we had ronaldo, tevez etc.

you can't replace this quality with ashley young/valencia and welbeck/ hernandez.

truth is that tevez is twice the player welbeck will ever be and the same can be said about ronaldo compared to young and valencia.

sadly we can't replace 2 people with 4 on the pitch yet that's exactly what we would need to do to get the same results with the 4 new players we employ.

fergie has actually decreased the star quality of the team.over the last few years.

Mancini is quite smart isn't it?

He has been saying "United has won it" "we have no chance" "Title is over" and now "United are favourites" when they are top and the title totally in their hands.

Playing down his side's chances to ease the pressure off the players actually worked, crawled back the difference in the last few weeks and got their form back.

you could've just said mind games ;)

IMO it made him sound like a fool. It certainly looked over at 8, and with UTD's experience even 5 points going into last nights game should have been enough but he was saying it was over when they were 3 points behind with the UTD game at home. Does that mean that he had no confidence in his players to beat UTD or was he just making a really daft comment?

When we had Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov we had a strike force that would fill the hearts of any team with dread. A strikeforce that could tear apart any team if they wanted to.

Now.....well...:(

Smart? That's like a toddler's introduction to mind games.

Fergie thinks there's no value in the market any more, shame he can't spend £20m on the likes of Nani and Anderson and £30m on Berbatov any longer, such good value!

don forget Tevez being a laughing stock for 1/2 the season because he was "homesick" etc etc

Whether he plays wonderfully in a few games or not, his antics could still have caused his side to lose the title (and still might.

Few clubs (who dont have a billionaire backer) would touch him with a barge pole, and rightly so

Berbatov was potentially frightening for one season at Utd .....and still didnt turn up for the majortiy of matches he appeared in, - stats, stats and more damned stats - as the saying goes (dont believe thats a sweary?)

All this mind games rubbish makes me laugh. I find it a little hard to believe that all the players at City and United have had absolutely no say in the title race, its all to do with the managers "mind games".

They make very little difference in the grand scheme of things. The team that plays the better on the day will win out of United and City.

All well and good spending money on youngsters when other parts of the team dont require it - however Utd have looked and played as if central midfield have needed additions /replacements for years.

Just like Arsenal crying out for defenders year after year - they are still (according to AW anyway) hitting their targets just like Utd, its just Utd aim higher to start with (for right or wrong)

They make very little difference in the grand scheme of things. The team that plays the better on the 38 days will win out of United and City.

edited for accuracy
