Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th February - 04 March 2015]

RM: "We are a well balanced team with a lot of scoring threat. Today we wanted it so much. We played 5 games in 2 weeks."

Bleach please...

Over the last couple of months he's gone from strength to strength and has really started to influence games. What's really impressed me, as well as his goals, has been his range of passing. I'm not sure if it's a confidence thing or not but he's been hitting 50 yard cross field passes and the sort of cross for Sturridge's goal today (and vs Palace in the Cup) that we always relied on Gerrard to do.
That's something he's had in his locker ever since he joined us. The difference between then and now is he's not passing it 5 yards to Gerrard to make those long range passes, he's doing it himself :)

He may have had the ability but I think it's more to do with confidence. I remember times early in the season when rather than hit the first time ball he always wanted to take a touch first.

**** in goal
**** in defence
**** in midifeld
**** in attack

That's balance!

At least Moyes only destroyed attackers, this clown has absolutely wrecked our team.

Another win ground out by Man United. Lots of hand ringing going on with yet another turgid display. The team needs to be a lot braver however, I wonder how the toon fans feel aside from lamenting some poor refereeing decisions. They are playing at home against the weakest Man U side (ignoring transfer fees) for a generation and they were happy to sit back 10 behind the ball and play on the counter. They were awful and we were only marginally better.

I am looking forward to the big matches to come. United need a kick up the arse and I don't see it coming until they get into a proper tear up vs Arsenal, Liverpool, City and Spurs. Thats when you need to properly judge van Gaal.

Scholes was on BT Sport tonight and you can see how pained he is watching this team play in such a pedestrian manner. However its not impossible for United to finish 2nd. Yes unlikely but only 5 points behind City and still to play them. At present they dont' deserve it but lets face it - at present Chelsea are the only decent team in this league.

There's no way that Man U side is weaker than the one that thrashed us 0-4 last season, by the way. We don't even have a manager, lol.

Moyes > LvG

I'd say we, Liverpool, are doing great alright to be honest...

Yes, unbiased.

Next you will be suggesting cm is unbiased, and never posts just to wind people up

.......come to think of it , are you identical twins?

.

The Arsenal game on Monday - even though its an FA Cup game - will be a reasonable barometer as to whether Utd have any chance of staying in the top 4 until the end of the season and then the next three weeks will be nail biting with Spurs at home, Liverpool away followed by AV at home

Absolute bare minimum to have any hope is 7 points from those three because you can bet your bottom dollar that City will bring their A game to OT (even though they have been pretty poor for a lot of this season)

Liverpool's recent form is impressive, but their start to the season was equally unimpressive. Its only about 2 months ago that a lot of Liverpool fans were calling for Rodgers head. Haven't seen them play recently but by all accounts its a lot more fluid than it was. Squad may not be deep enough if injuries hit the likes of Coutniho or Sterling.

In truth, Arsenal, spurs and Liverpool all have better form and are more convincing than United. Next 3 weeks will be interesting.

United seem to be playing with too much reserve at the moment. It looks to me like we are being told to value possession over penetration and that goals will eventually come. To be fair, our league position backs up this idea but its not a tactic that will win you anything.

I don't know if LvG is waiting for it to click and for us to have loads of possession and a cutting edge but so often you can see a player look at a forward pass and then turn back because it wasn't high percentage.

We are still missing a few players and AdM is in a bit of a rut which isn't helping but I think as long as we get 4th then LvG should get another season. Honestly, he hasn't shown enough to say that he is the right man for the job but if he achieves the goal of CL football I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

On the topic of Liverpool, I think people are getting carried away. They are playing pretty well at the moment but the result against City was mainly because City were suicidal. The gap between their midfield and defence was laughable and the number of times Liverpool got on the ball in that gap was mind boggling. They needed two absolute top class strikes to win the game and lets be honest, you don't score those goals very often. Even with all the domination, Liverpool could easily have come away with a draw or a loss.

Arsenal are the unknown quantity. When they play well they are great but they ebb and flow so much that I don't know if they will be top 4 or not.

I don't think anyone else is fighting for those top 4 stops really. City and Chelsea top 2 and Liverpool, United and Arsenal to fill the remaining 2.

Really can't stand the media.

Absolutely no mention of the stonewall penalty that Newcastle should have had, nor the second yellow Rojo should have been given. And nothing about the spitting incident from Evans.

Had Newcastle won and it was the other way around, it would be all over the media. It was only last week Match of The Day and Sky Sports were going on and on about how Cisse should have had a second yellow and not scored the winner.

Arsenal will roll over and let Man U win like they do every time they play. Still have a mental hold over us. Don't think it will be a good indication of anything.

Yup, we won't win against Utd regardless of the competition or time of year. Even when they were **** under Moyes we lost :(

Yep, ruined our best chance vs City away at the start of the year and was also poor defensively, he's improved massively regardless of who he is beside

Not been watching much Liverpool recently then

Have all your goals been amazing like those two against City? No they haven't. Coutinho is in great form and scored a great goal against Southampton but I can't think of any others.

I'm not contesting that you are playing well at the moment but people are talking like Liverpool are amazing and the win against City shows how good they are. It doesn't City were dire and made it so easy for Liverpool to get in behind their midfield in numbers it was embarrassing.

I'm not sure anybody has claimed we're Barcelona but we are without doubt the form side in the league. And while City weren't great as much of that was down to us as it was themselves. Also as you saw earlier in the season when they beat you, even when City don't play well they still win more often than not.

I would question the idea that you were as responsible for Citys apparent lack of organisation and tactics as they were. You played well. I watched the game. You chased well, you closed down well and you moved the ball well. City gave you far too much space and left huge gaps between attack and midfield for you to exploit.

The big difference between United vs City and Liverpool vs City is that you played well and we didn't. If United played well and City didn't then we would have beaten them too.
