Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th February - 04 March 2015]

Scholes made me laugh during the coverage yesterday when he said something along the lines of "Evans is not that type of lad so he's innocent but what Cisse has done is a disgrace", biased much? from what it looked like to me Evans spit was the most obvious as he appeared to do it directly towards Cisse whilst looking at him.

Its highly debatable whether Evans actually spat at Cisse - the opposite way round cannot be said however.

Yes , Evans did spit in Cisse's direction (which isn't the same thing for all of you with learning difficulties), but IF - and its debatable whether any ban will make a national /world wide difference - then Im all for Evans getting banned for the same 6 games.

Yes its disgusting and there shouldn't be any excuse for it - but to have spitting regarded the same as a head butt, biting or racism is ludecrious in the extreme

Whether Cisse "manned" up or not should have no effect on the length of ban - , he went right up into JE's face and spat within an inch or two of his face

Lol at you.

I would sooner some one threw a punch at me then spat at me. thats just me tho

I have no doubt that had it been John Terry or Steven Gerrard spitting at Cisse then Frank would be seeing it differently.

Spitting is often seen as severe because of the risks it can post - so it can carry all sorts of awful things,.

Do you worry about swapping spit with girls or boys if that's your bag? Yeah it's disgusting, the sort of thing you try to remove at play ground level but let's not pretend we would rather be head butted than spat on/at.

I'm all for a 6 game ban for spitting, if actually violence then gets 2x that and proven racism half a year off.

There's not one club I despise more than Man United, not even Sunderland.

The fans are a joke, and the players and also ex-players are an absolute joke. The most obvious spitting incident was from Evans, yet their fickle fans are too ******* to admit he's done it and so is he, yet will slam his performance for the next 6 games and wish he wasn't starting the game.

It's all about protecting the Premier League as a multi-billion pound product, spitting and violent conduct towards other players are both equally as bad in terms of the damage they would do to the Premier League if it was to become widespread. It's more intended as a deterrent and lesson to others not to do it than a punishment.

Don't be a **** ross, if you've got nothing constructive to post then don't bother. That's clearly a wum post designed to get a reaction out of United fans.

I'm sure plenty of us have thought about responding to it but a post like that says more about the person who wrote it than anything they actually say.

True, I really hope that he was deliberately trolling.

Some of the responses to this Evans and Cisse incident are worrying. I wish football fans could take their club bias out of the equation for one minute and actually view things rationally, sometimes the tribalism of football really annoys me. Evans and Cisse should both receive an equal ban, because they both spat at each other. I have no sympathy for either.

However, I do think that the way footballing incidents are viewed needs to be changed. Look at this article on the BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31746786

Steve Claridge refers to kung-fu kicks by saying "no doubt it can be reckless", and relating to racism he says "players develop a thick skin". It's alarming that he seems to think racism and kung-fu kicks, and even to some extent elbowing, are lesser offences than things like spitting and abusing the official. In my opinion spitting, feigning injury and non-violent confrontations (things like pushing and shoving) are the least serious football offences out of all the major ones. As some have said, it's bizarre that Cisse and Evans are getting a fairly similar ban to what Suarez got for racism, and not far off what he got for biting.
