Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th February - 04 March 2015]

Wrexham off to the FA Trophy final for the 2nd time in 3 years! :) :) :)

Facing North Ferriby United... currently 12th in the Conference North.

In that exact instance he maybe had a better chance, but pen conversion percentages are pretty good! And often it happens that a pen is a better chance than the one denied. Maybe sometimes a better chance than a pen will be denied, but I'd prefer that, compared with games being ruined by a pen and a red card being dished out for one foul.

I'd say more often than not if a defender has denied a clear goalscoring opportunity inside the area it will be as good if not a better chance than a pen but it's marginal.

That's only a tiny part of the point though. If you're in O'Shea's position and you know you're not going to get sent off, 100 times out of 100 you're going to foul the attacker. What's the worst that can happen? You give away a pen and you're in the same situation (give or take) as if you didn't foul him. And what's the best? The ref ****s up and you get away with it completely.

I don't get this whole ruining the game argument either. The ref punishing the defender isn't what's ruined the game - it's the defender that has made the challenge that's ruined the game.

The only way I'd agree about not giving out a red as well as the penalty was if it was blatantly obvious that the defender was making a honest attempt to play the ball. O'Shea wasn't though, it was a cynical foul.

Fantastic performance from Wednesday today :), good win.

Middlesborough were really disappointing though, very poor. Credit to being the best away fans at Hillsborough all season though :).

Liverpool are going to get completely over ran in midfield today and 4 strikers on the bench seems somewhat excessive :/. Not confident at all
