Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th March - 1st April 2013]

Yeah agreed, very poor.
There was a point in the second half when the commentators said our experienced players were using their heads and keeping the ball well. Up steps Enrique who ignored 3 simple passes, tried to take on his man by running straight through him and lost possession allowing them to break :o

A mixed performance from us today that probably highlighted everything about us right now. We can't handle players like Benteke but in possession we play some really nice football without the killer instinct often enough.

Coutinho and Sturridge have been excellent additions to the squad but we still need another goalscoring attacking wide player/midfielder and we're desperate for a dominant CB.

edit: And Westwood should have been sent off at the end, that was a terrible challenge.

I thought our biggest problem was the midfield again. We started the game with Lucas in front of the defence and Henderson and Gerrard far further up the pitch which gave Villa acres of room in the centre.

Perhaps once Carragher retires we'll see a faster CB arrive which will allow us play a higher defensive line and compress the midfield but there's nothing linking our defence to our attack at the moment.

Saying you don't want any team to go down is equivalent to saying you don't want to see any teams promoted for winning the Championship.

No it isn't....Not at all. I suppose most of the posters on here don't 'support' teams who have been relegated(in their life time) so can just casually say that they 'hope xxx get relegated', 'horrible club' etc. I would never wish relegation on any team ever, or the tens of thousands of fans who spent a lot of their money each year going to matches and supporting their team.

Agree about the midfield. I've been saying all season that we're too easy to break against and whoever plays in that holding role gets isolated. It's partly down to the distance between Lucas and the defense but also because we commit too many players forward and lose possession too easily. So often teams are in a situation where if they've only got to get past Lucas and they're running at our CB's.
