Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th Sept - 3rd Oct 2012]

How is Lualua doing at Brighton?

Came on in the second half today, very direct, he was fouled about 50 times! He always looks dangerous and goes past people for fun at this level. Personally I think he is too good for the championship and whichever way, he will be a premiership player within 2 years.

If all stoppage time was counted and added on I wouldn't be surprised to see double figures more often than not. What confuses me is that there can be around the same amount of stoppages in both halves yet the first half will get 1-2 mins and the second 3-4 mins. They seem to just pick a number out of their arse to be honest.

Is Bridge finally getting over his 4 years of being paid a lot nail hot women in manchester and becoming a good footballer again??

Dobbie looked good last year in his few games for Blackpool.

2 conciliations, Brum are a mega hit and miss team. Also the prem really isnt all that :( almost want relegation just as the champ last year was more fun

Such a shame that Bridge chased after the money!
There are few players that made me as excited as Bridge did when he played for Saints. That includes Bale, Walcott and the Ox.

Also is Fox injured or has Adkins seen sense and replaced him at left back?

I'm quite fond of Spurs and their football but I thought they were equally poor today over the 90 minutes. It used to take more than that for a win at OT.
I still think Rio is a capable player. The fact that when exposed to a foot race with Bale he lost is not a surprise. It could happen to any defender regardless of age. Still, his lack of pace is an issue and it needs managing, either by offering protection from the midfield or by leaving him out of such fast games. The team's setup never had a chance of containing the speed of Spurs and a lack of cover in the squad meant he had to play - so it was a disaster waiting to happen. In addition, as much as I rate Kagawa as a player, he wants to play a completely different build up game to the rest of the side and seems to have created more problems than anything.

As for the future, i'm really quite dissapointed to see the main area of contention for SAF post match today was..stoppage time. You couldn't make that up. In terms of red flags, I suppose it's just one of many we have seen today. SAF will take a lot of blame for this one and rightly so. I don't think its a bad team/squad but it is unbalanced and what bothers me most is the lack of any real vision or plan for what type of team we want to be this season.
Imo, from a fully fit squad, only Rooney and Vidic would be guaranteed starters. Thats not a good sign and you see evidence of it week after week with teams seemingly picked randomly out of a hat and with players often moved all over the place to accommodate the latest attempt at a system.
In addition, SAF continues to have huge blind spots over certain players. Be it Neville, Giggs, Park (who turned down a new contract) or Evra, players are being allowed to put in awful performances with no consequences. And it's always the older or more "basic" players who get this luxury. The younger, more promising players seem to be out the team after one bad pass. This isn't the approach that the club should be about nor is it the approach which started his incredible success.
SAF needs to take a long hard look at the situation and be honest with himself. He's created something of a mess and it needs sorting.

Always thought we were a bit quick to sell, especially when we play Obertan so much, but glad he's found somewhere where he is appreciated.

Sometimes I genuinely wonder if some of Norwich's defenders have such low IQ's that they would be classed as mentally retarded.

I don't like Suarez but you have to give him credit, he is very good at putting the ball in the corners. And there was no way you could say that Suarez dived, it was a typically rubbish piece of defending from Barnett.

Did Hughton watch any highlights from Norwich playing last season? We only ever looked like a good side when Hoolahan and Holt played yet they are both being stuck on the bench and everybody knows that Barnett is dumb, slow and very careless. He is a walking penalty risk so I have no idea why he is playing ahead of our other slightly less bad players..

Ba headed off his own hand then in, hard luck for Reading.

We were shocking after Taylor went off, but what do you expect without either first choice CB? Blinking joke we didn't sign another CB in the summer, every fan knew it but not the club

Two more points dropped, we are going to get ******* spanked soon the way we are playing, it will be deserved as well.

Its not like anyone couldnt see this season coming with United.

You could predict Uniteds starting line up for Spurs, and exactly what would happen when they took to the pitch.

I've read posts people have made two days before the match saying it will be Scholes and Giggs in midfield and that it will be carnage and a suicidal mistake.

If your average mouth breathing football fan can see it, its no surprise a rival manager can and yesterday as people have said, the first half was no contest.
Giggs attempted 10 passes in the first half, completed 5, couldnt get near the spurs midfield and looked utterly lost.

The second half was better, but only because Spuds sat off and invited us to break them down which we almost did.
But Fergie has trouble understanding that this side doesnt have the luxury of RVN, Cole, Ronaldo, Tevez and Beckham in its ranks, players capable of stepping up and putting in epic second half performances.
We have one player, Wayne Rooney, and he isnt fit.

Fergies "intersting" management of the midfield is now bearing fruit, every game bar Newcastle we have have been over run in the middle, disjointed going forward, shaky at the back with players not getting back to screen the back four.

I'm not saying Cleverly and Anderson are world beaters, but what they are is young and decent, they are a several orders more mobile and physical than Giggs and Scholes, and just as capable of passing the ball to Rooney and Nani to do all the creative work as Scholes is.

Agreed, Lindegaard is steady but unspectacular. De Gea has that ability to pull off a match winning save.

Agreed

Then teams change their tactics and put in more aerial balls and De Gea goes to pieces

Neither of them are the solution (so far), although admittedly De Gea may come good in the end

Cleverley I would agree with - Ando has had many chances and proved how worthless he actually is in high % of them. Personally I think its time to start putting some of the youngsters into EPL / CL games and see how they cope

It has to be said thats all true.

The midfield isn't a huge issue IMO, or not as much of an issue as is portrayed, but it becomes a MASSIVE issue if you play Carrick, Scholes and Giggs and then wonder why there is no tempo. The simple act of removing Giggs changed the entire game. Yes, Spurs sat back, but with the three amigos playing it wouldn't have mattered.

I actually think yesterday could have been a bit of a watershed with Giggs. Its 3 years too late but i think he's had his "Neville" moment. Keep him round the squad and the club but don't let him near a starting place in a PL game would be my advice.

4 mins plus the ref added a further minute of Fergie time... not really sure why there should have been 5 minutes added, I don't recall many stoppages?

So what's your point?

How was it a disgrace to 'only' play 5 mins of Fergie time?

You were originally seemingly questioning even 5 minutes in your original post and with the Gallas injury plus the 4 minutes as indicated it should easily have been over 5 mins

So maybe check what you originally wrote as they infer different things :)
