Oh come on...
...begrudge them the result.
I can't think of specific examples, but I'm sure there have been some. It doesn't really matter, you're interpreting my comment too strongly - I'm not saying I expect or require SAF to say anything, merely that it would be showing some particular good sportsmanship if he did go out of his way to say something extra along the lines of "
we've benefited from good fortune previously, so we'll take this result on the chin and be better ourselves next time" or similar to your comment: "
it's hard to begrudge this result..." Nearly 20 years now of great success and dominance of English football, the greatest manager of his generation, maybe of all time, and still he continues to frequently behave like an absolute tool.
I doubt many will disagree that United deserved something out of yesterday's game
This one of the biggest clichés from supporters and something I think we all do more often than we'd like to admit to. Of course you can say Utd didn't take their chances so the result was entirely fair. For me this was just a very normal, typical result and I would see the result as fair or good whether it had ended 3-2, 3-3 or 2-3. Disappointment for Utd fans, but no unfairness about it.
the smart ones will see Spurs' bad luck in the past and find it hard to begrudge them the result.
This is how it should be and I'm sure
is the majority view.
Of course there are a minority Utd fans bleating on about being hard done by and I had to listen to a pair of cretins for over an hour earlier on this very subject (see my above point about SAF and all the success.) To be fair, it is equally annoying as Chelsea fans whining on about needing to spend money after a bad performance, Spurs fans going on about being a big club, Liverpool fans going on about History™ etc. All of the above are fair game to be made fun of and called out for being ******s.
