Tom Werner publically stated at the start of the season that top 4 was the target.

Rodgers added that while fourth place is seen as a minimum acceptable target by many supporters, nobody within the club had ever specified Champions League qualification.

“In all my time at the club it has never been said to me, in the whole time I’ve been at the club.

“It has been an internal ambition from myself and the coaching staff and the players, they want to be there and we did that. And we did that against the odds a couple of years ago.

“We weren’t meant to get anywhere near that but we did. We lost the quality and had to rebuild again and we will fight to be there. I have never been asked or told to deliver that by anyone at the club since I came in.”

Rooney and Carrick. I genuinely don't believe we will win a thing with these two still as starters. Deadwood.

And bringing on Fellaini and Valencia. That's our back up option. Dross

Arsenal win, Spuds, United, Chelsea, Liverpool all drop points! Good little weekend :)

Good game, showed we can attack and we can defend.

Wonder what Wengers tactics are on CL nights, looked a totally different team today.

So he said that CL isn't the minimum target, I'm not sure what you're getting at? It's clear and the owners have said as much, that the club are trying to get back into the CL on a regular basis but it's also clear that the decision on the manager won't be made purely on whether it's achieved in any given season or not.

As I said previously, that's why Dalglish got sacked but Rodgers survived his first and last season. If the owners didn't care about building then why did they pay the best part of £10m changing managers to replace Dalglish with Rodgers? Given that you believe that empty seats will dictate whether the manager stays or goes, surely it's a safer bet to stick with a club legend than to replace him with a no name manager? And then why do you then give the club £40m odd to spend (that's cash gone into the club on top of what the club has generate btw)? Strange things to do if you're not trying to progress the club.

edit:
And here's the link to Werner's interview:

Nicely done Arsenal, that will kind of ease the tension for our pathetic performances in both of our CL games this season.

Definitely looked like the lads were up for this game, much more than poor Utd.

Great couple of goals for Sanchez and Ozil getting a goal and assist. Shame Rambo has lost his shooting boots somewhere lol. Le donkey?? the less said about him the better...should have made it 4 but unsurprisingly just shoots it straight at De Gea.

Great weekend with Chelsea losing and Moaninho losing it yesterday...even better that we beat Utd for the second time running ie last yr QF against them and just today.
