Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 4th October 2015]

What coined it for me was Gary Neville saying as the players were walking out

"Arsenal don't turn up for big games"

Curse of the commentator there Gary.

So he said that CL isn't the minimum target, I'm not sure what you're getting at? It's clear and the owners have said as much, that the club are trying to get back into the CL on a regular basis but it's also clear that the decision on the manager won't be made purely on whether it's achieved in any given season or not.

As I said previously, that's why Dalglish got sacked but Rodgers survived his first and last season. If the owners didn't care about building then why did they pay the best part of £10m changing managers to replace Dalglish with Rodgers? Given that you believe that empty seats will dictate whether the manager stays or goes, surely it's a safer bet to stick with a club legend than to replace him with a no name manager? And then why do you then give the club £40m odd to spend (that's cash gone into the club on top of what the club has generate btw)? Strange things to do if you're not trying to progress the club.

edit:
And here's the link to Werner's interview:

so Rodgers is straight up lying then? What a man of integrity we have in charge.

Nice jinx from him but in all honesty i like Neville, hes pretty fair and unbiased in his commentary and of course he is right because a lot of the times in the past, we havent turned up in the big games.

But slowly we are starting to, last season we beat City which we havent done for quite some time. Now have managed to do over Utd twice but the icing on the cake would be giving an almighty thumping to Chelsea and Moaninho at some point this season.

Where have I said that? Rodgers said he's never been told that CL is a minimum target. There's a difference between targeting a place in the CL and saying it's CL or bust. Maybe if we didn't have 4 sides with greater resources than us that wouldn't be the case.

edit: Anyway he's gone. Didn't take empty seats after all :p

And just as I'm about to head out. I look forward to reading the posts when I'm back. Oh and somebody start a separate thread for it.

I've never understood sacking a manager straight after a game. Where it's obvious that it's not working, why wait and go "one more chance "? A win today wouldn't have made him a better fit for the club, it would have just added to our time with the wrong manager.

Edit: glad he's gone though, he deserved some time after what he achieved a couple of years ago but the last 18 months have been dire and there is no sign of change

Really strange performance in hindsight. If you know you're going to be sacked after a game then why not go out all guns blazing rather than defend a draw in the second half? Same goes if he knew he had to win at all costs which makes me think he thought his job was safe.
