Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 7th December 2011]

I can partly understand why the ref has given it; he's seen the end of the tackle and it looks like he's lunged in 2 footed but you only have to look at the youtube video on the last page, it's his momentum that's taken him off the ground.

Why do you keep saying this, have someone stand still, and jump half an inch in the air...... any danger? now have that same guy do that while running full speed....... the ONLY danger IS the momentum, yet you keep saying it like it makes it not a foul. All the danger in a bad tackle is exactly the momentum you carry which can cause injury. You've summed it up perfectly, the player has carried his full momentum while catching another player, with his studs, well off the ground......... it literally couldn't be any more obviously a red.

More importantly how did you work around it? Looks pretty much the same as last season to me? Now you've just got a striker in Adebayor who is actually useful, rather than VDV relying solely on knock downs from beanpole.

like i said, we changed from 4-4-2 to 4-4-1-1. in other words, we changed to the more modern form of attack. before that we had keane and berbatov in a 4-4-2, they both buggered off, we bought pav, defoe came back with crouch. vdv made us more effective though it took some time.

How do you stop yourself following through with a slide tackle?
Other foot was dragging, and he made contact with one foot and got the ball, not even close to a red.

but any player knows the risks of this sort of thing now yet they still continue to do it, it's bizarre. it was a red.

That replay above doesn't look particularly dangerous to me.

Catching someone halfway up the shin with your studs is fairly dangerous..

Lol, he karate kicked his leg straight into his shin. It can't possibly be anything but dangerous. You can argue it was unlucky and there was no intent fair enough, I don't think there was either really, but it doesn't make that tackle any less dangerous.

And there clearly was force, as by the looks of things he went flying after he was hit!

Can we have Carroll back for £5mill now? :p

Don't get Liverpool, beat/draw against the best and **** up against the poorer teams half the time.

Honest question for pool fans, do you think Kenny thinks too much of himself and pool and so doesn't prepare/motivate the team for the "easier" games and just expects a win for turning up? That's only thing I can think of :p

That Spearing tackle was nasty, don't know how he didn't take Dembele's foot off, ridiculously lucky his studs didn't stick in the ground as that would be his season over, reckless tackle

Just because you might catch somebody with a high foot, it doesn't make it a instant red card or else you'll be sending players off for any sort of high footed challenge. You have to take into account the actual challenge not just how the bodies have ended up.

Spearing doesn't jump into the challenge. He's made a side-footed tackle and after striking the ball with his foot at its lowest point, his momentum has meant his right foot has followed through and caught the lad.

Surley the Suarez 'penalty' at worst would have been an indirect free kick as it was only obstruction?

Indirect free-kicks are only for back passes now, it's either a penalty or nothing and going by the ref today, it was only ever going to be nothing.

Around the half hour mark Hangeland absolutely clattered into Suarez, it was as clear a foul as you're ever likely to see. The ref gave nothing and told Suarez to stay on his feet.

No! According to the Trades Description Act 1968 we should be entitled to £35 million pounds back!

lol

interesting i haven't read any 'dalglish out' comments yet, yet if it had still been hodgson at the helm, i'm sure there would have been.

how is kenny doing compared to roy in terms of form?
