Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th April - 2nd May 2016]

Congrats to Leicester, great season from them and good luck leading the line in the CL next season.

I think the spurs players lacked a bit of experience (hardly surprising given they are the youngest team in the league on average) but hopefully lessons learnt for next year to go again. The title wasn't lost last night, it was lost in the games that we drew, but should have won (WBA, Stoke etc).

Just got to refocus now for the last 2 games and cement 2nd although it will be interesting to see how much of a team we have left for next week haha.

One thing I do hope for is Leicester to get some monster away days. It might seem a bit harsh but this could very easily be there 1 and only season in the CL coming up, if I were them I'd rather be drawn against the likes of Real & Dortmund even if it's makes things much harder for them to qualify.

Wow, wow and wow! Unbelievable !! Headed straight to the Slug and Lettuce bar in town to meet some friends and then went to the King Power to party.

Amazing!! CHAMPIONEH!!! CHAMPIONEH!!!!

I saw earlier on SSN that Spurs were 1st in the league (or at least certainly much better than Leicester) in nearly all of the statistics that some obsess over, possession, passes, goals etc, it just shows how meaningless they are.

One win should see Spurs finish as runners-up. Southampton at home and Newcastle away both look like tough fixtures with Alli, Dembele and possibly others missing.

It's interesting that this isn't Spurs' record points total for the PL season yet (currently on 70). Andre Villas-Boas' 13/14 side managed 72 points but that was only worth fifth place that season!

They're clearly not meaningless as Spurs are currently only one place off first.

I'd be surprised if anyone but those two were out, but we'll see what the FA come up with. Hopefully we'll be able to get over the line for 2nd, depending on the Arsenal/City result we could need 0/1/3 points due to GD - it would certainly be well deserved after a cracking season.

Gratz to the foxes, wonder what the odds are that they will get relegated next season?

I'm sure i read something on the bbc website a week or so back that the bookies had Leicester at about 40/1 to win it again and 50/1 to be relegated. Think they've learned from this season :p

I'm still struggling to wrap my head around it, fantastic achievement but the league was pretty dire this season for competition, if I recall correctly the average points that have won it over the last 15 seasons has been something like 87.

Should really shake things up though, big managerial changes already in place and can see some cracking signings happening over the summer.

I beg to differ, they are very meaningless if you don't have the points to back them up.

Leicester couldn't care less about stats, they have the points and the Championship :)

Looks like there will be a few players missing in the next couple of games and possibly the start of next season.

The highs and the lows of football.

Wasn't that long ago that they were having a whip round from the ex players to save the club from non existence.

Just one of the many stories that turn for the better, Swansea, Hull, both at the trap door of the league without a penny or any hope for their future.

Stories, or just another reason why the whole of the game encapsulates peoples lives the way it does. One thing demonstrated by the Leicester squad this year is that the grass roots of the game from the bottom up still matter.

You could tell a story about just about every one of the journey men bunch that performed for Leicester this season. Players like Albrighton, never more than a trier that runs his heart out, Schmeichel, not in any way what so ever near his old man in terms of presence or ability (notts county legend, mind)

Ill pick on Wes Morgan though, a local lad from the meadows in Nottingham.. one of the cites worse areas. A player that came though at Forest, plying his trade at mainly league one level, a rock in the defence.. one for the fans to cheer for, but in truth never of the ability of what had been down the years for the club. While im happy for so many fans of the club I've know for going back over 25 years of living and working in Leicestershire , Morgans the one I cheer for today, it's and long, long road.

Being a Forest fan I grew up with the understanding that you have a good manager, he builds a team that works together on the pitch, and it just works... that simple. while forest had some greats, most down the cloughy years were that same type of make up as the current Leicester boys.

The thing that amazes me more than anything with what's happened, is just how grounded the players have remained... everything would have fallen apart if they hadn't done that. In the 70's and early 80's for the forest squad it was a simpler time, modern media dictates so much now.

That's it, the players won it both on the pitch and off it.

Well done to the team, Ranieri, and the people that have supported Leicester City for years. Always a club with strong family support...

OK if you're going to be picky about my use of language I'll expand.. if you were to examine those stats in isolation as a predication of league position then you would easily come to the conclusion that Spurs had comfortably won the league.

The only stats that truly matter are Won, Lost and Drawn.

After the Spurs game I spent about 2 hours discussing Leicester with the wife and their season, gotta love a woman who likes football!
