Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Dec 2011 - 4th Jan 2012]

a little peeved that chelsea won but thankyou martin jol. now, if tottenham can get 3 points tomorrow, i will be a happy bunny!

Ferdinand
Vidic
Smalling
Evans

All CBs, all missed the last game through injury. We are short of fullbacks but we should have more than adequate cover in central defence. The run of injuries we have had there is pretty unprecedented.

Any Full backs available? Is having only 4 CB's fine for a whole season?

Im pretty sure you should have more?

Arsenal have:
Schollachi
Mertasaker
djurough
kolseney
vernahlin(where the hell was he today?)

Thats 5 CB's we have

Our only other player capable of playing CB is Jones, but he actually looks far better in midfield and seems to have settled there for now. If you count him as a CB then we have as many as Arsenal but they're all injured.

Full back is the problem, as the only recognised ones we have are Evra, Rafael and Fabio. After that it's down to people like Smalling, Jones, Evans and Valencia to fill in, and then the kids like Zeki Fryers. It's not a great situation but I'd far rather have a CB playing full back than a winger. :o

Why are people using tiredness as excuse, its rubbish in modern times with all the support the get, food and training ground set-ups.

Tiredness works both ways.

yeah it's a poor excuse, it's not like they have to work 40+ hours a week getting up at 6 in the morning almost everyday:o

Valencia's generally looked pretty useful whenever I've seen him play RB for you.

He really hasn't, he's a good tackler but unfortunately more is required of a defender. His positioning has been pretty poor at times.

He only looks good there when we're playing against weak teams and he can essentially just play as a winger most of the time.

Aye, he's not amazingly good defensively, pretty average, looks exactly like you would expect a winger playing at full back to look like.

What are you on about?? Absolute nonsense post. Teams rotate and rest tired players all the time, which means it's not a problem. If one team hasn't got the squad depth to rotate, then their players will be more tired than other teams.

Arsenal have had the same six players playing midfield and up front in every game in multiple tournaments for the past few months. Same defenders as well mostly, with caveats being the injuries at the back.

No luxury of rotation = unavoidable tiredness.

Arsenal fault for not having enough squad depth, but you could see in the second half that Arteta and Ramsey couldn't even run. They were flapping their arms about like players do in Fifa when they run out of stamina.

I think it's more a case of the fact they will have been training daily since they were below 10 and are paid disgusting amounts of money to be fit and play football; to say they're struggling to do that (if you're not Ledley King) is a bit pathetic, imo as well.

Granted, but the point is, they don't have to be struggling per se, just more tired more than the other teams. It's a completely valid excuse when you've been playing the number of games that they have.

+1 fully agreed

And arsenals one composed with 4 CB's? Two of them being headless chickens?

The fact though that your defence did include 4 defenders suggests no United's defence is not more shambolic than Arsenals and only a fool would suggest otherwise

That's subjective. Having 4 defenders is only a good thing if they can defend.

I'd take some club mascots ahead of some of Arsenal's defenders :p ;)
