Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Dec 2011 - 4th Jan 2012]

2 posts for Wigan then, hate re watching this

watching this again just shows you player power, exact same team Bruce had but team beats City and Wigan

Good win for Bolton, but I wish the teams at the bottom would stop winning. As a Norwich fan our 9 point gap just doesn't seem very big! Cracking results this week though, what a pleasure to watch the EPL is!

The whole league below the top 6 is craaazy tight. I don't like it :(

i knew he was injured in a (was it cl game, i remember seeing it and it looked nasty) but didn't realise it was for the season. besides, i'm sure a utd fan said a few posts ago that you'd be fine when vidic was back?

Yeah I know hes out for the season but I can't honestly see us buying anyone this january to fix the midfield so next season is when we might start to see the final squad for the next few years hopefully.

I still don't understand what you see in Carrick Tom84... He doesn't break down attacks very well at all. I think that you have just come to think that he plays well when he is actually just playing better than he normally does.

Do you genuinely believe that he is good enough for united. Not based on our other options but based on the quality of player we need to challenge for silverware against City & other teams in europe.

Newcastle only one point behind Liverpool?

Well if Liverpool are 4th place contenders then surely Newcastle are as well.....

:p

Firstly define what you mean by how he normally plays? Are you judging his performance level/ability on the last 2 seasons or his first 3? Personally I think his current form is between the two. He's not as good as he was from 06-09 nor is he as bad as he was from 09/10-through to March time last year.

Easily. Is he good enough to be pretty much our best midfielder which is an entirely different question? No. We should have better players like a Modric. I said it before we should be in a position where Carrick is third choice pushing for a start rather than relying on him week after week. People like yourself though fail to see all the good he does though and the fact that you think he fails to break down attacks shows this in abundance

One thing I think somehow got brushed under the carpet (perhaps rightly so) was the fact that for the first 25mins, MU were all over Newcastle, I thought it was only a matter of time before MU scored

For as bad as we were over the course of the 90 minutes that second goal right after half time was the killer. Had that been avoided I'd of fancied us to get something. Who knows had Simpson not cleared off the line we may of even scored twice and got a 2-2

Im not sure I would say that we were all over them but we were on top. I didn't particularly think that we ever looked massively like scoring though and that is the big thing. Just because a team is on top doesn't mean that they are dominating.

We? I thought you were a Norwich fan?

I live in Norwich at the moment and have done for the last 7 years but I only support them in so far as they are my "local" team and I would like to see them do well.

It didn't get brushed under the carpet, its just wrong :p

Firstly, Newcastle were the better team in the first 10 mins, then Utd got back into the game in terms of possession and area of the pitch most of the match was played in, Newcastles half but rarely in Newcastles box and realistically just not looking threatening to Newcastle's goal at all.

Then you have the fact that Newcastle had a stone wall penalty and a what would have to be yellow card for Rio turned down before the two goals they did score. As for if Rooney's shot went in, well other than it didn't, in "what if's" that goal it should only have been making it 3-1 and really wouldn't have made a difference.

Utd got outplayed in every area, and as I've been thinking for weeks now, I like Jones as a bombing forward big guy, he's good to watch, but I'm not sure he's even a marginally good CB. Utd haven't looked good with him at CB, he makes loads of errors, his positioning isn't great and his insistence on bombing forward leaves gaping holes.

Tiote, was god damned amazing, both doing the "professional" job of killing time by drawing fouls perfectly(helped by guys like Welbeck being completely stupid), but the other side of his game, brilliant tackling, great passing, composed, he doesn't panic and pass backwards when he gets the ball he'll find space and pick a good pass forward.

Ba, can't say enough good about him, quality.

Rooney, turd today, awful passing, useless. Why Utd have a guy who has been a prolific finisher when he stayed upfront and is average at best in the deep striker/midfielder/creative role, while Berbatov who is much better as the deeper striker and a massively better passer/creator than Rooney, was playing upfront I really don't know.

Then instead of taking off the useless Rooney and putting Berbatov in that position, he takes off Berbatov, who wasn't good but barely got given the ball. Rooney got on the ball as much as any Utd player, and did smeg all with it.

Hernandez came on, went offside and never came back.

Park......... seriously, just why........

What are you talking about. Lindegaard couldn't have saved any of those goals tonight and having a defence that is shaky at the moment doesn't help any keeper. When we have Vidic back we will be fine but until then, I don't think either keeper is going to have a good time of things.

There were a few moments tonight when Lindegaard was lucky that the ball didn't fall differently and if it had, they would have gone down as keeper error. De Gea didn't get that luck last game so he made those mistakes.

What are you getting at by the way?

Actually, in fairness he got a hand to the second goal but didn't do much with it, likewise the third goal I still fail to see why the keeper couldn't have run out and taken that before Jones got to it. it was a LONG ball, saw it coming for miles and he could see the only attacker and it was perfectly safe for him to come out and grab it. The fact that he didn't and the fact that the striker and Jones were moving to that side of the goal, keeper really should have stayed on his line just in case.

I don't think he was terrible at all, but goalkeeper mistakes are usually team mistakes where 2-3 players combine with mistakes to let a goal in. Linders is not blameless for 2 of the goals, nor so is he completely to blame. if that was Da Gea in goal he'd be getting an awful lot more grief for his positioning on the 3rd and his weak hand for the second.
