Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th September - 2nd October 2016]

To be fair, Swansea could and should have put the match beyond us in the 1st half and I suspect many other teams would have. Its 3 pts, it moves us to 2nd and it means that its ground gained if City drop points at Spurs, but Liverpool were complacent and came here expecting Swansea to roll over, so hopefully that match was a wake up call to us.

A win but we made it difficult and defense could have cost is easily, That being said we won and we need to win these style of games dig in and hope we get the result

That was a game we would've lost last year but 2-1's a fair result.

Swansea played very well in the first half and pressed us hard but their level dropped in the second which allowed us to keep possession and play the ball around much better.

Few players played well and a few had a shocker but that was more about team resilience than individual brilliance today.

Terrible first 30 minutes and although their goal was offside (that ****ing lino has to be in tonights Telegraph!) we deserved to be behind. We started to get better towards the end of the first half but the 2nd half was much better - we pressed better and more importantly were quicker and better on the ball.

Despite the much improved 2nd half performance and the win, Sturridge and Henderson's performances bothered me. Sturridge, particularly after we went 2-1 just seemed to lose interest - we should have ended that game 3 or 4-1 up had Sturridge been at it. And Henderson's backwards passes were really getting on my nerves - everytime he had somebody close to him he'd turn and play the ball back to the keeper or the CB's, often putting them in the same position he was in the first place. He's not done too bad overall in the holding role but the sooner Can is match fit the better because Henderson isn't confident enough to be on the ball as much as you are in that role.

Sunderland again at home and concede to West brom, the team that usually can't score. Sunderland are even worse than usual.

EDIT:- last time they had a start this bad Di Canio was fired with a new manager in by 8th October. Before that last time they got relegated they had 4 points after 7 games. AT the moment they are looking at 1 point after 7.

...and this time, Moyes won't be sacked as he's just been appointed. The timing of Allardyce's departure was bad news for them, players leaving with no replacements, no time for Moyes to get any players in, desperation signings (Anichebe), low morale.

Does not look good for Sunderland at all.

Not exactly convinced of that.

Sunderland sold, Graham, Vergini, Fletcher, Giaccherini, Gomez, Bridctt and Kaboul. They bought Djilobodji, Love, McNair, Pienaar, N'Dong and Anichebe.

Keeping in mind that the manager was fired last season in what Oct/Nov. In the first half of the season they got 12 points, in the second with a few more additions in January they got 27 points. Of the players they sold, literally only kaboul played in that team. So they've lost a single CB, brought in what 3 defenders and 2 midfielders and Anichibe.

So he's got basically the whole squad that managed 27points in the second half of last season, lost one player and gained 6. Unfortunately he's one of those boring managers who prefers to buy players he knows rather than 'good' players. Pienaar at his best was inconsistent as hell and vastly over rated, the occasional brilliant game, many many bad ones and that was years ago, he's been poor for years and Anichebe... laughable signing but again Moyes knows him so that is all that matters.

Maybe it will turn out both have the same agent as Moyes if you know what I'm saying.
