Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 5th October 2014]

@OptaJoe

0 - Arsenal have failed to have a shot on target in a Premier League game for the first time since September 2003 (vs Man Utd). Blank.

Arsenal are absolutely desperate for a combative type midfielder. I don't think they're lacking attacking wise, but against a team like Chelsea you need to match them physically to have any chance at all. Arsenal don't have a chance in hell of doing that how they are atm.

.. Still, it went better than last season. :p

You say that, but in attack they're always waiting for the perfect pass (something you'll rarely get against a decent defence).

I thought they looked dreadful and toothless today. They had plenty of the ball, they just did nothing with it. As that Opta stat above demonstrates!

That is something they struggle with each game when Ramsey isn't playing. The kind of player I think they need is someone that will make his type of runs, while also being a physical presence. Carvalho is pretty much perfect for what I think they need. This is only my opinion though.. If I actually knew anything, I wouldn't be sat in my room playing Fifa and watching the football. :p

We've struggled in each game Ramsey has played in this year, he's been crap and he's been making the same runs. He's slow, Ozil is slow, we play slow football that makes it's way towards the final third then just stops, there is such little movement it's incredibly easy to defend against.... when the team isn't awful and deciding to leave themselves open to a simple ball behind to be run on to.

We've played like that in every game so far except against Gala, who just opened up at the back for no reason to allow us to run in constantly, and Villa, who had Baker out and a squad seemingly all sick and tired. Even in that game the second half was a meh performance, against the rest of the teams we've played we've been woeful upfront.

It's a shame really, Ramsey was great last season until he got injured. Now he's starting to look a flop like Wilshere.

What is it with Arsenal players and injuries?

"Chelsea striker Diego Costa has had 19 shots this season, 16 of them have been on target with nine resulting in goals."

Stunning.

I guess we have to listen to the Jose Costa injury bluff all year long ;)

yup, they really are. For those who didn't know Juve vs Roma is on 2-2 going in to half time, great game so far. Juve took the lead through penalty, Roma scored 2, Juve get another penalty in injury time, Tevez scoring both. Second half will be worth a look to those who are able to watch it.

It's not just the fact it's against decent defence. Decent passing players from midfield are a rarity, period. There only seem to be a handful of real decent mids in the prem who can place a perfect pass time and time again.

THat's why every player doesn't have to be Fabregas, you have a Hazard, and a runner, and good strikers. All our players except Wilshere just stand there waiting for a perfect pass or looking for the perfect pass, Wilshere makes a pass and moves to create an angle for a pass back to him, he'll do the same for others making a run off him. Everyone else just stops over and over, every game.

Even more than not every player needing to be a passing player, you don't have to play in a certain way, you don't and shouldn't pay 42mil for a player who isn't actually that good. Wenger has lost his eye, he's been buying the wrong players, benches the wrong players, starts the wrong guys.

We have very little variety in types of players and Wenger keeps buying the wrong players. Ox is fantastically dynamic, but completely rubbish, awful passing, crossing and shooting. He puts his head down and ends up producing next to nothing for all the running he does. Having delivery from his runs would make the world of difference and offer our team more variety. Instead he often runs to the by line then tries 8 turns and delays the cross then eventually does so and hits the first player.

Sanchez, Wenger apparently thinks is a great winger, great on the ball, I wish he was but he isn't. He is Chilean Walcott, again very limited, awful running with the ball, loses it constantly, tries passes he can't make. We need players like Hazard who can get the ball run it forward and produce something, and we need one or two Sanchez types to be on the end of those chances. It can't be all Sanchez/Walcott or Ozil's.

You want one "passer" like Ozil, you need actual quality from delivery of your wide men(something we lack entirely) and you need a finisher or two. One player can fill more than one role, or every role. But we have a complete lack of wide players who can actually beat a player or two down the wing and deliver a quality ball over and over again, none of our players offer that, on top of that none of our fullbacks offer it either.

Just seen Wenger's interview, so disappointing, first he said we were evenly matched.... on what ******* planet Wenger. Then when asked about his girly shoving match with Mourinho he didn't say "I didn't see it", which would have been hilarious :p

Finally seen the Liverpool highlights. Absolutely love Adam Lallana, great little player. Henderson has been our best player by far this year as well.

Does anyone know the genuine reason the game was delayed today?
I heard rumours in the stands but they were of course just that.
There were rumours that Wenger flipped and pushed Mourhino too which can't be true and more that Wenger said "They did not work our keeper more than we did their's. We had more shots and missed opportunities to take more" which again can't be true as Arsenal had 0 (zero) attempts on target.
Arsenal were better than last year (obv) but I think Wenger really needs to learn how to swallow his pride and just set his team out not to lose first and try and nick a win if he can. His one dimension must be a doddle for most managers with comparable teams to play against.
Not sure why the majority of Arsenal fans chose to boo Fabregas today either after hearing Wenger explaining why they didn't sign him.
Classy bunch.*

*Not really.

Hasn't Lallana been very meh so far this season?

He's been far and away our most creative player when he's played, and he's only just coming back to fitness. It was more a general comment based on the last couple of seasons, he's favourite English player so I'm pretty happy to have him!
