Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4 - 8th May 2013]

Credit to Reading for playing with some pride.

Meh, I didn't watch enough of it to know but, with Fulham they scored a single goal in the previous 5 games, conceded 7, lost 4, got one point, they've been beyond pathetic, they've completely given up and been woeful infront of goal, everywhere.

4 goals is still not bad but, they barely even tried last week when staying up was on the line, there was zero pride last week and beating a joke of a team isn't something to be proud of given the situation.

Fulham though, 6 games, 5 losses 3 goals scored, 11 conceded, just pathetic, really pathetic.

To be fair to Holtby he has a lot of potential.

Chelsea watching this must be licking their lips because it takes the pressure off tomorrow and shows how wrecked the spurs squad is. Going to need a major investment in depth of quality for next season

Sandro and Kaboul are massive misses.

Adebayor has been our great mistake; we have effectively had one striker all season.

We need a striker and a creative midfielder and maybe this side starts ticking over.

Except the manager has been playing Adebayor constantly, despite being utterly worthless, he was also responsible for the other buys, and the random hype over how fantastic Holtby was, and him being the only player to come in(that I can recall) in January is pretty pathetic in and of itself.

Spurs are basically exactly where they were last year, with Bale's increase in scoring being offset by Adebayor's lack of doing anything useful at all. Basically same points at same time of the season, it was 62-65 points a game or two ahead last season, but then Spurs had an easier last 4 games than Spurs have this year, they are looking to finish where they did last year, for the same reasons, with a different manager, a few different players, but the same main players.

Only difference is they took Europe a bit more seriously.

No excuses to sub both Ben Arfa and Gouffran off, and to replace them with 2 of the most useless footballers to ever grace the Premier League. Couldn't care less if they were tired, we're fighting for safety ffs.

I don't sound it but I'm happy with a point. Anything less than a win against QPR and we're down. It's all we deserve.

Wolves fans were absolutely incredible today!...cheering(almost) everything, great banter, really friendly before and after the game. Shame to see them relegated. Favourite chant of the day is between "Que ser sear, whatever will be will be, we're going to Shrewsbury" and "Crawley, on a Tuesday night":D

One thing though- I have never seen a player get as much hate as Jamie O'Hara today...and I doubt I ever will again! "You're not fit to wear the shirt" every single time he touched it, accompanied by boos. He made a dodgy tackle at one point, and the Wolves fans starting shouting "off off off", even though none of our fans were, and then they booed when he didn't get sent off. Actually, they seem to hate Roger Johnson nearly as much...some Wolves players came over to the away fans to give them their shirts and talk to them(Elokobi and Doumbia I think), Roger Johnson came over, and they told him to **** off!

A lot of them even stayed behind to clap our players on their lap of honour. Total class!

Monreal in for Gibbs today. That should make DM happier :p

Does anyone know whether Wilshere is starting?

Maybe, being we are playing QPR, does it not continue to suggest Wenger see's him as backup to Gibbs, who came in straight away when fit, for bigger games, and Monreal goes in as rotation against the worst team in the league?

I really wasn't being negative when I said the Monreal signing may be pointless, because I genuinely suspected Wenger would still massively favour the pretty much inept Gibbs. I think Monreal looks defensively speaking, hugely stronger than Gibbs, and smarter offensively, but that is useless if he ain't playing. Same goes for Podolski, love the guy, but not much good when he's on the bench. I think Vela was one of the biggest prospects we've had since we bought Cesc, and yet did nothing with him.

Its still not possible to say for certain what the deal is with Podolski/Monreal, injuries, adapting, rotation. Give it a few months into next season(assumign Gibbs isn't broken again) to get a really good indication of who is first team(in Wenger's eyes), and if Podolski forces his way out because Wenger is messing him around.

Anyway, will be thinking and focusing on the Brentford game more today.

We are in no way safe. They win their game in hand they're two points behind us and they play us on the final day.

Quite, the drop could easily be 38 points with two games to play and there are a whole bunch of teams sat within the firing range of that.

The reason Adebayor was played was because Defoe was injured. There were no more options available.

Holtby was £1.5m; hardly a huge punt.

The problem is that Spurs cant attract the players we need; what striker could we have bought in January? Remy? We have been trying to get good strikers for ages. AVB came in lost 2 HUGE players for us (so it is absolutely not the same group of players as last year) and basically bought what was available to him. Tottenham cannot attract the players we need because we have a strict wage budget and run at a profit.

We need a world class striker and midfielder. We lost 2 world class midfielders in the summer.

The key point is that despite funds being available, who we need wont come for the wages we offer coupled with no CL.
