Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 7th Feb 2012]

To be fair SAF has been using "the world against Man Utd" as a motivational tool for the squad for years, I would be surprised most other managers dont try and use it at some point

KD did go on a little too much though (esp after the FA asked both clubs to stop mentioning it lol)

He's a monster but he's our monster and I love him.

You do? I really don't understand this. I'm a bit United fan but would never have said such a thing about certain players (Keane) for example because their actions did not deserve such support.
For me, the team is the important thing and anyone within who brings shame upon it, I probably dislike them more than non fans.
I'm not sure how an adult can have such blind loyalty and devotion to reprehensible people just because they wear your shirt.

That's very noble of you. But would you accept that it's fair to say that Utd fans on the whole loved Keane and Cantona despite what they done?

Suarez has been punished and we move forward. Should I hate him because of his past misdemeanors?

If you're referring to the racism row Ferguson has just came out and talked about it some more from what I'm reading, oh yeah, we're playing you on saturday :p

rooney twittered (or twitted :D) that Saurez should have been given a straight red last night for the kick he gave Parker in the chest (rather than the yellow he did get)

Is Richards that good a defender? Not convinced to be honest, although he is a good (rather than decent) suppliment in attack, not that sure about Johnson either, but Walker looks promising although Ihavent seen a lot of him

I think Walker COULD be the answer like Ashley cole was for the England RB slot, offers a fair bit going forward although needs a few more tricks to bear players, defensively he works very hard but needs experience to really shine there, but that will come

The general consensus of most fans (had it been their own player) would have been that Ekotto should have been sent off. There will always be the odd one that will claim otherwise though.

oh right, you mean the BAE incident where i said it looked like a foul and upon re-viewing i admitted he was a lucky boy and is a liability at times? hardly being biased really, was i?

I dunno I think thats taking it a bit extreme. I have been home and away when the likes of Eric, Hughsey, Keano have been a bit naughty and you support them through thick and thin. Call it blind loyalty.

I suppose that's one think Utd Fans and Liverpool have in common. (There Baz I said it, we have something in common. It's the first, last and only time I will ever say it :p) Very rarely do the set's of respective fans boo their own players. On the contrary, when they become public enemy number 1 they support them even more.

Not like them jessies at Villa and Arsenal constantly frothing at the mouth if they aren't winning anything.

Feel a bit queezy saying some of that ;)

Come off it, players like Keane, Ronaldo and Rooney are loved because they **** off our rivals.

It's called the Robbie Savage Effect.

For those that can remember him before he became yet another BBC cliche-generator. I know it wasn't long ago, but you'd be surprised how quickly they bland in your mind.

well to be fair, Im not sure if he would have said anything if KD hadnt mentioned it last night (and also SAF is saying its enough - shouldnt be around at all , ie generalities rather than specifics to one case)

Also its an obvious question after Rio's treatment with the Chelsea fans at the weekend and then Liverpool visiting OT on Sat

Oh yes ofc they do, without doubt. I would be more prepared to move forward with Suarez if he had shown any sign of remorse.
Hates a strong word but I wouldn't say I loved someone who had done such horrible things.

can we have your opinion of Rooney then ?
Wouldn't call myself a fan either :p Although to be fair, he at least admits to past mistakes and shows signs of learning from them (no yellows this year for example).
But I suppose I am not a typical fan in this respect. (Although I know I have a degree of bias myself). I know most are willing to accept such things with little thought. My mum still loves Giggs but I just can't see past what he's done off the pitch.

Really? :/

Granted it came as a surprise to me when it was revealed what he'd allegedly done based purely on his golden boy rep for much of his career but to hold a grudge against him for it? Do you feel the same about Beckham?

Like Baz eluded to props to you for having morals but you're certainly in the minority :D :p

Great victory for Birmingham. Goal in the last 5 minutes from Redmond. We now 3rd in league and just 2 points behind automatic promotion. Maybe getting back to the premier league first time round is possible after all !!!
