Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 7th October 2019]

Wishful thinking to say City will massively decline post Guardiola. Guardiola is exceptional but so is the set-up at City. They have the best squad in world football, the best academy set-up in world football, along with a proper structure and clear plan to support any new manager. When Pep leaves, City won't end up with a David Moyes, nor will they go into the transfer market blind, ****ing money up the wall. Bergstein and Soriano are no doubt already planning and preparing for when Pep leaves and they will end up with a top class manager, aligned with how City play and work off the pitch. They might not be a 100 point team every year but they'll be a 90+ point team pretty much every year now.

I'm not sure, you just need to look at Man United to see what can happen when a top manager leaves and others come in and try to stamp their own brand of football on a team. They've still got the money, the academy and the fan base but they're in danger of suffering a prolonged period outside the top 4.

Time will tell but there's already a massive Kompany shaped hole in their team and defence, their midfield won't be the same without Silva and Fernandinho and their attack won't be the same without Aguero who's also the wrong side of 30.

I think they've peaked and although they can afford to replace them over time it'll be hard to continue their run of success.

I rate Klopp above Guardiola as he has proven himself with tiny budgets but Liverpool would wipe the floor with City if they had their spending ability.

Liverpool is hardly a tiny budget. His spending and the clubs backing him has been far from tiny. If it was just about having the money United would still be top and City wouldn't have sacked about 5 managers. Liverpool have a format that works for them, I'm not sure throwing an extra 100m at the team per year would make much difference considering the best players they have had over the last 8 years haven't been the most expensive.

So you think Liverpool will drop like a stone when Klopp get's bored?

But Utd had and still have no structure in place to allow a smooth transition. I can't remember who said it but somebody made the point a little while ago that Taggart was pretty much a director of football at Utd that took charge of games. He wasn't a coach like Pep or Klopp, he appointed somebody to do that for him and he then oversaw everything else. When he left, coupled with Gill who handled transfer negotiations and contracts, there was a massive void to fill.

The overall running of City won't change when Pep leaves. There won't be a huge change in style or philosophy and a huge turnover of players. They'll drop the best coach available to them into their set-up and carry on. Obviously theres no guarantee that they'll be just as successful but I just can't see how they could get things so wrong, given how well set up they are, that they'll go from being a 100 point side to a sub 80 point side.

Getting mugged by Chelsea youngsters.

Southampton could barely assemble a single Premier League quality player from the entire squad.

Back to the good old 90s days of season after season in the relegation scrap.

Need more variety from Pepe than chopping back on his left foot at every opportunity, it's like watching Sanchez again. Although Xhaka is the Captain, it would be interesting to know if Emery views Guendouzi as his first central midfielder on the teamsheet.

Bournemouth offering their usual training game at the Emirates. We need to make hay, get the second and take the game away from them before they start to fancy it.

I thought most of City's setup was because of Guardiola. Surely they would leave when he would?
When I say set-up I'm talking about Soriano etc. These were the guys City appoited to run the entire football side of the club and were key to them getting Pep. I can't see them leaving when Pep goes.

A flukey goal to get your hopes up and then back to usual service, utterly abysmal defending allowing a completely open shot to Kante which ends up going in with a helpful deflection.

Southampton are a weird side. They've given us some of our toughest matches over the last 2 year but seemingly are complete dog **** every other week.

Until they come up against us then we make them look like a top 4 side :p
