Glad Smalling is back but would have preferred Schneiderlin to Carrick

Hope Klopp is taking note of this performance now, his hand was forced but we're in complete control without pressing so intensely.

Were we trying to press so intensely? Obviously there are/were times when we tried to press but when a side is launching it back to front at every opportunity you can't press.

Our problem isn't the midfield etc pressing (or not) but how poor we are at dealing with teams that beat the press by launching it forward. If we could defend long balls then teams wouldn't be so willing to play them and will then try to play the ball on the ground more, giving us the chance to then play our pressing game.

Lovren played really well today and tbf he's done well whenever he's been fit since Klopp took over. Sakho on the other hand is frightening me every time the ball is hit in his direction. He challenges for balls he can't win and has this terrible habit of trying to control balls that he needs to clear. Put the worlds most retarded LB next to him and it's a heart attack in the making.

On a side note, Henderson is a real real concern. In games vs City etc where his energy is crucial he can still contribute but games like today he's a passenger. He's not a defensive midfielder and he's not offering anything going forward at the moment - he's too timid and is lacking the courage to make things happen. In his early days with us it was the same, he's taking an extra touch instead of playing that first time pass or shot.

It was in absolutely no way a penalty. Contact doesn't mean a foul, it's that simple.

From this AFTER the contact, his stride adjusts and is back to normal, there is precisely nothing at this point taking him down. He plants his left foot then just flops over. He CHOSE to not bring his right leg through any more, he CHOSE to not push off with his left foot, he simply went down. It was a tiny bit of contact as Dellany CHOSE to pull out of the tackle.

It was an absolute dive, never in a million years enough contact to go down.

I felt it was a dive too but this is clear evidence. There was absolutely no contact at all worth bringing someone down.

There's contact but its miniscule, certainly not enough to have brought him down. I'm glad I'm not a palace fan, I'd be fuming.

Gotta rotate with all the games coming up, probably see Schneiderlin and Memphis start on Thursday against Liverpool for the Europa.

Schneiderlin and Herrera have hardly played until recently so that shouldn't be an issue

Carrick on Thursday would be a better fit (experience wise) imo

He doesn't plant his left foot at all

Whether he could have stayed up or not is irrelevant too. He was tripped, it's a foul, it's a pen. Why do people keep believing that the attacking player's reaction/fall etc matters? it's what the defensive player does that determines whether something is a foul or not and again, Dellaney tripped Benteke - it's a pen.

Perhaps that's Sakho's problem as well now then? Certainly take Sakho over the Lovren that played left side CB.

That injury has destroyed him. He hasn't looked anywhere near the same since, isn't capable of pressing and no longer even tries to make those killer passes that became the norm for a while.

To be honest, I don't drink alcohol but at our annual Christmas Eve knee's up at the local I did loudly declare that Leicester would win the league, even the Leicester fans didn't believe me :(. I should have put ******* money on it.

a leicester fan cashed out the other day for £29k, stood to get 100k if we win the league.

I'm not sure you can blame Moreno for Sakho trying to chest control a long ball, only to gift the opposition a break on us. Sakho, just like Moreno, makes some horrendous decisions.

I don't know how much the injury is effecting him. He doesn't seem to be physically struggling and I disagree about the pressing, I thought he showed he can do that late on in the League Cup final and again in midweek. He looks shot confidence wise. In the first half today he played a nice 1-2 with Firmino on the edge of their area and had a half chance to score but he didn't fancy taking the shot on, took an extra touch and the chance was gone. It was the same thing in his early days with us.

Nice seeing the world realise what Newcastle fans knew, Pardew is a ******* liability.

I'm not sure the world has realised that or whether it's true. He's a ****, everybody knows that.

He's an odd manager no doubt. His teams either go on great runs or horrific runs - there's no middle ground.

Lovren's positionally inept and has made more stupid tackles than Sakho ever will.

Wow what a dive
It was a foul plain and simple. Stay on your feet and we get nothing, go down and we get the chance to win the match. Benteke took advantage of an incredibly stupid tackle.

Lovren was those things. He's been shockingly reliable of late.

And completely agree re the pen. I've banged on about it for years. Why should an attacker stay on his feet and penalise himself when he's been tripped?
