Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 9th December 2014]

I'm with DM on the penalty incident, I don't think it was a pen. Like Gary Neville said in commentary, the lack of any sort of appeal from Milner is pretty telling, and it's not like loads of the other City players were appealing for him either. To then go and book Barkley for diving, when there was as much (as little?) contact as the penalty is absurd from the ref.

Like DM said, Marriner somehow let two bad studs-up kicks go, missed Barry's elbow in the second half, gave a very soft penalty, booked Barkley for diving, and got several other smaller decisions wrong too.

edit: lol at Alan Pardew saying they beat the best team in Europe. Oh okay Alan, I didn't realise you were playing Real Madrid.

So does a player have to have a limp snapped off to fore this ref gives a red card?!?

Absolute joke of a ref, should be banned, ruined the game.

It's incredible that nobody bigger than Stoke were in for Bojan at just £3m.

Most bigger clubs wouldn't have the time to play him in the hope that he fulfils some of his promise. Ultimately, if he has a stunning season he will get picked up by a bigger club who will pay more but haven't had to take a chance on him.

After watching Ricky Lamberts performance for Liverpool on MoTD I Now know what this False number 9 is

You can smell the panic on the Chelsea forums now. Their game has dropped badly in the last few games and all of a sudden, the new signings don't look as good as they did. Now City will only be 3 points behind and the race is well and truly on!

i imagine anyone who has actually been watching them will not be panicking . they where incredibly unfortunate yesterday and where the much better side for all but 3 10 second counter attacks. 2 of which resulted in goals.

shearer on MOTD going on like newcastle where Barcelona , they where on the backfoot for 95 minutes but colochinni and co played a blinder in the the box

not sure why Mikel stayed on the pitch though , missed chances , didnt assist in any of the defending. the only negative for them id say

id be more worried as a city fan after watching aguero go off ! and then with toure missing in jan

Of course we were on the back foot against Chelsea. We were playing Chelsea. We restricted them to half chances, defended with discipline, pressed them well in midfield, and were effective on the counter - that's generally what a great performance against a top side looks like.

Is this post serious? Not only regarding the content but also the spelling and grammar.

Seeing as he's now going to cost £15m+ I'd say anybody buying him now is taking a bigger gamble than Stoke.

Everybody knew the ability was there with him, it was just a case of whether he could live up to it. £3m to a PL side is nothing - so many clubs should have been all over that.

Harsh. Lambert was bought for games like Chelsea last season - to come off the bench and give us something different. He's being asked to play back to back games now and he just can't manage it. I've seen statues more mobile than him and I don't understand Rodgers logic in trying to play Coutinho (and then Gerrard) in behind him. Lambert was never running in behind for Coutinho to play him in nor was Coutinho going to make the forward runs and feed off Lamberts lay offs. We should have Henderson further forward a hes our only player that's able to make runs in behind.

Distin is 37 in 10 days time. 37... 37... 37... 37!!!!!

So he still has a good 3 years left in him :D

.

and 15m is pretty minimal to most EPL clubs these days (who get £60m+ each summer, and that will increase further in a few seasons)

What clubs play for is consistency as much as outright skill, and no-one could tell that until he got here. Even at £15m he would be a reasonable bargain and stil on moderate wages most likely at Stoke.

I'm not knocking Newcastle at all, defended amazing in the box and made their chances count

But people are making out that Chelsea played terrible or should be worried, far from the truth and I still wouldn't bet against them

Oh come on, he has been sold to Stoke because he has never done well enough for any of the teams he has played for. 3m is a paltry figure for even an average / poor player these days so there must have been a reason why no one came in for him.

Roma, Milan and Ajax aren't exactly top top clubs in the world so if he showed some kind of form they would be able to fit him into their side. I hope he does show the kind of talent that Barca saw in him at a younger age but we will have to see at the end of the year what his season has been like.

I know he hasn't lived up to his potential so far and why he's never made it at a bigger club but for £3m he was worth a punt for a lot of clubs. At £3m you can't lose - if it doesn't work out you'll find another club willing to take him off your hands and if it does you've either got yourself a very handy player or you'll get 5x your money for him when you sell him.

Its early but he's been excellent for Stoke so far and there's no way they'd sell for less than £15m if a club came in for him in January.
