Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 9th December 2014]

i wont link to it due to the language but wenger was verbally abused by arsenal fans whilst catching the tube after yesterdays game

Was the last time Leicester won the Man U game?

Its crazy isn't it?
Not only did they win, but they won by scoring 5 goals.
In that game, Vardy was a the MOM. Since then, he has done nothing of note.
And if memory serves me correct, Man Utd were parking the bus, so had the game gone on for longer, Leicester could probably have scored more goals.

There is a lot of unrest, from the Ars supporters.
On their forum, they have a thread wanting Wenger's resignation.
It is a very long thread.
The supporters are basically saying that 4th place isnt good enough anymore, so he must leave.

I agree with this article. They are right to demand more.

I don't care about 4th, achieving it or not. Okay, we qualify for the champions league, yet we KNOW we won't win, we KNOW we won't win the league so what matters about being in the champs league. Beating 2 crap teams, losing to one good team(usually once then winning the unimportant already qualified second game), then getting thrashed in the first knockout round unless we get lucky and draw Galatasacrap or some other awful team.

So ultimately we see qualifying for the CL as a certain 20-30mil income... which we can spend on Diaby, Rosicky, some other sicknote and another expensive buy for Wenger who isn't actually any good? Does the 30mil make us more competitive, no, Wenger doesn't spend the massive amount of cash he does have wisely and hasn't since 2004/05.

A team attempting to improve and failing would be more watchable and less frustrating than a team that fails to fix a single problem with the team in a decade.

The attitude of players, attitude of the manager, the club, the mentality of the players, the training, the massive blinkers on Wenger where he can't identify where the problems are in the team, with the training, with the medical staff with the mentality or attitude of his players. Arsenal now spend incredibly close to what Chelsea are spending in wages yet don't look even slightly competitive in comparison, the quality difference is laughable.

Campbell getting 5-10 mins max in the past 2 games having no chance to effect the game, Jenkinson got no real chances despite Sagna being crap. Jenkinson got a deserved round of applause when going off the pitch today because he's performed excellently at West Ham who sit above us in the table having spent a fraction of what we have on transfers and wages. Had Arsenal played Jenkinson AND had competent defensive training (coaches or Wenger insisting on poor tactics, maybe both to blame) then we wouldn't have needed to spend 12mil on a pretty old and questionable right back and 16mil on a younger and even more questionable right back.

Jenkinson deserved WAY more games over a poor Sagna and the end result is that we spent almost 30mil on replacements and loaned out the one who is performing best in the league.

We utterly refused to give Vela a real chance, a player who within 5-6 proper starts at a new club became a 15 goal 10 assist a season player who would do significantly better at a stronger team.

How many players does Wenger buy then either never give a chance like Jenks/Campbell/Vela, or give a chance then bench to give worse players starts because he prefers them for some bizarre reason, Pires, Arshavin, Podolski....

Had he left with only 3-4 of his poor years after 04/05 when it was clear he wouldn't change and wouldn't be competitive his record would still have been impressive and he wouldn't have completely ruined the club. Now we have a decade of stale players with the wrong attitude training poorly on expensive and overpriced contracts. He needs to be gone and absolutely not in any way involved behind the scenes.

Mercenaries like those at Man City and Chelsea are the ones who win you titles, though.
IMO, in 2014, the last thing you need to worry about is allegiance.
The most important thing is outright ability to win games.

Arsenal don't bring in the premium/expensive mercenaries though that are actually good. Arsenal tends to go for the cut price bargain mercenaries that are made of glass and are happy to be paid to sit on the bench.

Good grief, do you think the current influx of Man.U. players were all born and bred in Salford and are doing for love or something? :p
They certainly didn't join for the trophies that's for sure as they aren't even in one of the biggest ones :D

As with almost every job, there is little loyalty from staff because the employer would throw them under the bus if it suited the company.

You won't get many players staying at a single club throughout their careers anymore usually because they are sold. If the club is offered silly money for a player and the club he is moving to is on a par or better than his current club they will probably move.

I'm sure that Di Maria would have quite happily stayed in Madrid for the foreseeable future were it not for United paying him much more than RM and RM getting very good money for him. I wouldn't call Di Maria a mercenary though. I doubt he pushed for the move.

Not sure, as a Chelsea fan, you can really try to argue the point, the Original Merc team. ;)

Hope united start Falcao today, wasting someone of that quality on the bench if fit.

Edit: IS that why we haven't seen much of him, has he been injured?

Yes, his fitness wasn't great to start with, then he got a new injury, and now he's building fitness again. We won't see the best of him just yet, but he's hardly been bad whenever he's been on the pitch anyway - just needs time.
