Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 9th December 2014]

Arsenal need to be careful they dont get beaten too badly. If they go down 6-0 or similar, their confidence could take a big hit.

Perhaps they should think about parking the bus?

3-0 to Stoke is worse than 6-0 to Chelsea or 5-1 to Liverpool or 8-2 to United.

They're only ever going to challenge once ever so often, haven't got the ability to buy several big players a year, buying one each of the past two has been a surprise really.

It's got nothing to do with money directly, however people consistently ignore the monumental advantage being a longer term manager has.

Rodgers has been there a couple of years, he couldn't have bought a Ronaldo at 15mil and waited 3 years for him to get good, Wenger has been at Arsenal long enough to buy youngsters who turned great who could have retired from football at 35. A manager who has the chance to bring in youngsters and shape the club will spend significantly less than a new manager.

We're now 3-0 down, everything, every goal has been predictable, the same failings in the team.

Things like Cazorla being a truly horrible shot from outside the area has been apparent since his first Arsenal appearance, he has wasted attack after attack with his woeful shooting and 2.5years later the manager still hasn't informed him not to shoot from range? almost a decade since we lost GIlberto we've failed to buy a decent defensive midfielder once despite the desperate need for one each and every season. We haven't bought a 2million or 20k defensive midfielder of any age till we got Flamini, an ageing player who hadn't played over 20 league games in a season in like 4-5 years, who had missed an entire season recently and who has since he joined struggled to play half a season. 10 years and then he buys absolutely the wrong player.

All the little problems at Arsenal add up to a team that will never achieve anything, and we don't challenge every few years, any truthful Arsenal fan knows that the only times we've been near the top of the table for any length of time have been based around seasons where we had a helpful fixture list for half a season then would certainly fall apart when things got difficult, they did.

Arsenal can't challenge with Wenger because Wenger will not improve nor will he fix glaring errors in the team, nor will he be ruthless with failing players.

He has for the second time this season made the statement that Diaby will get a new deal if he proves his fitness, which we already know means if he trains with the first team for more than a week we'll be stuck with him for another 3-4 years.

Neither of those will come close to happening.

You've not been watching have you, Arsenal have been utterly dire, defensively the team looks like they don't care.

While we have for years had players ignoring dangerous runs particularly at set pieces, we had almost no one react for the second goal. Mert was just standing still not checking behind him, paying no attention at all, not a care in the world.

I mean Flamini actually saw Bojan, pointed at him, but told someone else to mark him, it's the Arsenal way, see a problem, tell someone else to deal with it... doesn't get dealt with. Matic would have got across and stopped the ball getting to Bojan.

Ramsey was even last year, awful, awful defensively. He is poor in our third and this year without much going his way offensively he's been almost useless and yet not close to our worst player.

A better manager would get WAY more out of the players we have, defensive discipline, a ruthlessness in playing our best players and dropping players who are playing crap.

No other manager in the league would have started Cazorla more than a couple of games this season he's been so utterly awful.

I have it on the second screen, those things just don't happen despite how utterly crap you've been

What on earth is this ridiculously pathetic excuse for football that Arsenal are playing? Every time we have the ball it's like watching Bambi on ice. Passing it to the Stoke players every chance we get. I'm actually at the point now that I don't even enjoy watching Arsenal anymore. Something needs to change.

Challenging consistently? Yes it does.

Arsenal's problems are NOT to do with money, they are to do with Wenger. Arsenal also have money, people just choose to believe they don't. Chelsea are spending WAY less than City, Utd spend way less than City, both are competitive. City's wages have come down to 205million while Arsenals went up towards 170mil, with Chelsea around the 185mil mark.

Arsenal DO spend money, it is NOT the reason WE aren't competitive.

Money has nothing to do with having good players on the bench and starting Cazorla.

Explain to me how a managerial decision to inform Cazorla to stop shooting from range because he is god awful shooting from range... is down to money. When we've spent over 200mil on players in the past 4 years, how is it we haven't bought a single half decent defensive midfielder when it's been the most important position we've needed to fill since Gilberto left?

Money and not having the same amount as City is ONE problem Arsenal face, the majority are things like players being picked to start games, refusal to change tactics. 80%+ of Arsenal's current problems are down to Wenger, not money.

Wenger is another problem and whatever about Carzola shooting.

Money still directly effects your attempts to challenge consistently, if you were able to purchase several players around the price of Ozil and Sancez more often you'd be doing better, you're players aren't simply doing bad due to the manager, they simply aren't as good as Chelsea/City

I'm sure you could do a bit better with a different manager but you still wouldn't challenge like the others do in most competitions.
