Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6 - 8th April 2013]

So by that you're refusing to explain why he's the best then? Somewhat hypocritical that you're moaning at others for not explaining why he's not don't you think?

In answer to your question no neither Vertonghen or Vidic would be in my team of the season

he's a great leader, great with his feet, great in the air, great distribution, great fitness, great awareness, great reading of the game, great at challenging in the box, great organiser., lots of great things about him. it's a shame our other defenders aren't so great.

I'll bit a bit as Tom seems to want to stay clear.

Better on form this year? Ferdinand, Cahill, McAuley and probably Flores.

In overall terms just generally a better player there are many, many players on that list. He's had a good first season, I really like him but he's not team of the year or one of the best around.

Another disappointing draw... I love Gus, but if anyone wants him in the summer, I say let him go. There are much better managers about, who might actually try to win games.

Superb win for the Villa, sensational strike from Lowton who's been a bright light this season but once again Benteke scores, what a fantastic signing, a brilliant brilliant striker

Again, a frustrating day at the office and I think we've blown our chances of automatic promotion :( The last four away games I've traveled 992 miles, spent about £500 and have spent almost 30 hours on trains. We've amassed one point, one goal and totally screwed up our promotion chances

I think I'm going to Crewe away on Wednesday night

Ruddy lucky today, Mert could well have gone for the elbow earlier in the half and given them a penalty, though he wouldn't of been on to give away another penalty, just West Brom would have had longer with the extra man. Mert also did that terrible back pass to Kos. Why they didn't start Lukaku, no idea, he creates so many problems for defences.

Villa, well, stunning goal and I love seeing Stoke get beaten so great result. Villa aren't nearly as bad as some make out, one of their biggest issues seems to be fitness more than anything else, this season they have one of the worst if not the worst second half record and a pretty decent first half record, team of youngsters and cheap replacements for all that left generally does lead to late second half collapses. Southampton, great result for them, Swansea continue their "we've got a cup, wtf else is there to do" form.

Brentford, well picking up points away is still decent and there will be weeks Brentford win at home and the other guys have tougher away games and drop points, but not a great week for them.

Villa have absolutely no fitness issues, the problem lies in our inexperience in being unable to see games out and not having a leader in the absence of Stan Petrov. Crazy comment.

I think we will do it. Always seem to hit form when the pressure for 4th is on.

Yeah I hope so. There was a point earlier in the season when i was almost hoping that Arsenal missed out on the top 4 just so Wenger and the board could see that the current policy at the club wasnt working.

But now its getting close to the end of the season I am right behind the team and Wenger to see the job out and get another top 4 finish.

We've been fortunate other teams have given us the chance to get back in to contest the CL spots. The good thing now is that a top 4 finish is within our own hands again, because of the Chelsea vs Spurs game still to come meaning one or both of them will drops points, although we need more than that game as a cushion so it's vital results go our way tomorrow to start with.

I won't hold my breath though - 2 seasons we've left it till the last day to qualify, with dodgy lasagne and goalkeeping elsewhere helping us out hugely, and then there's the issue of our defending, so I'm still preparing for the worst. At least if we do finish 4th and the summer window opens, for once I think we can get through it without losing vitally important players... because there aren't really any left.

Tbh i was pretty much the same, thinking that we wont get 4th spot this season but with a bit of luck going our way...we seem to be getting some consistency back in our game recently. Im just hoping to God that whatever happens ie whether or not we get CL football next season that the board and Wenger invest in some decent quality players rather than the current rubbish we have rotting our squad inside out.

What i really fear is that if we get 3rd or 4th at the end of the season, then the board and Wenger will think we have a good enough squad and theres no need to invest in better players. Mind you it could still happen if we dont get 3rd or 4th spot this season.

That was an absolute stunner from Lowton. I think 7 points from here and we're safe. Fulham at home, sunderland at home, wigan away and norwich away are our chances for points. Man utd away and chelsea at home would be a big ask to get anything from. If we beat Fulham next week that'll put us in a very good position. Really need QPR and Chelsea wins tomorrow.

2:05 and 4:10?

What's with the stupid kick off times?

Which games are televised today? I think thought it was the Manchester derby and was looking forward to it! :p
