Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6 - 8th April 2013]

Again, a frustrating day at the office and I think we've blown our chances of automatic promotion :( The last four away games I've traveled 992 miles, spent about £500 and have spent almost 30 hours on trains. We've amassed one point, one goal and totally screwed up our promotion chances

I think I'm going to Crewe away on Wednesday night

That is a heck of a lot of travel, and not envious of your trip to Hartlepool :(

While its not great to not win, again, ultimately the others will likely drop points at some point and a point away might be the difference come the end of the season. Not great form away from home though which is worrying. We're still at the stage where if everyone top 6 wins their games in hand we'd be in second, though Doncaster have moved into a potential 4 point lead and that Sheffield game is becoming more and more important.

It could be that Doncaster are already champions by the final game of the season and its at home, both things that should be in our favour, Sheffield is away, but have a pretty weak home record this year, so might be better playing at their place than at ours, who knows. The other games home and away are very winnable... doesn't mean we will though.

Villa have absolutely no fitness issues, the problem lies in our inexperience in being unable to see games out and not having a leader in the absence of Stan Petrov. Crazy comment.

Yes, brain farts and the mentality to sit further and further back have exactly zero connection to fitness. the more tired players are the more mistakes they make, the worse the concentration, the less positive their play becomes, they more they sit back.

For me its not that they just sit back to try to defend a lead, though they do that as well, its that a lot of the goals they concede are absolute brain fart moments, not just the other team being better.

Its crazy, literally crazy to suggest a team that would apparently sit 6th in the table after the first half results, but have struggled around the bottom three because their second halfs and particularly the last quarter are so ruddy terrible?

Why have the Villa players made mistakes early in games?

For the most part, we haven't. This is what is confusing me. Most of our mistakes tend to come when we're in the lead of a game and we go into a blind panic, lose our shape and discipline and the inevitable goal comes. Thankfully our attack is actually quite strong and we won't keep a clean sheet so we're going to need to probably score 3 a game to have a chance of winning.

Good afternoon from a sunny White Hart Lane!

Our team today: Lloris, Walker, Caulker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Parker, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Holtby, Dempsey & Adebyaor

Subs: Friedel, Naughton, Assou-Ekotto, Livermore, Huddlestone, Carroll & Ceballos

pretty much the only formation we could've gone with.

massive game this.

Were fielding same team as last week, Reckon we will beat West Ham today we just need to start quick today and not wait till 2nd half to get going.

Hope Countinho has another good game and that Sturridge gets some time

We were in a great position 10 games ago, and have played overly cautious football and formations for the last 5 games. As such, we've slipped from 2nd to 4th and are starting to throw away an excellent chance. As we were a week ago, and also before yesterday's game, we're still in the position whereby if we win our remaining games then we'll go up... but we keep on throwing it away

Still a good season, but the league this year has been very poor and this is probably our best chance to go up!

Massive game today, these next 2 games (Fulham, Sunderland) will shape our survival. Must win both to have any hope of staying up. Very nervous I must admit...

Both scared and excited about this! Surprised he's stuck with the formation, even more so giving Barkley a start. Don't put him on when we're battering Reading, but start against Spurs when we're fighting against them for top 4 finish. No pressure lad, we'll see though I guess.
