Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 11th April 2012]

But if they are as good as they are they should be able to consistently hit at the top level.

Not saying Cisse will yet just wanted to point out how unbelievable his start has been.

How so?

They are season averages, it is an average of his season when compared to the rest, just because they have played more does not make it any less relevant.

It either suggests that the above players are not as good as everyone thinks or that perhaps it is harder to keep it going over the season but they are perfectly relevant.

Game winning goals is not effected as an average it shows that a player can score at important times, the amount on target isn't effected in fact you could argue that the only stat possibly effected by the amount of games played is goals per minute. But even then if players were performing at a consistently high level then this would be lower.

Ben Arfa is getting a lot of praise for that goal, now Newcastle seem to be the team to talk about given the fact we have caught up with Tottenham

Is this season going to be a curse for next season? :)

Some right bitter ***** on this forum.

It was just bad defending? Utter joke you lot.

Bitter? :D

It wasn't anything properly special aside from the fact he carried the ball a long way, he just had to run in a straight line riding one weak tackle and two defenders who might as well have not been there.

His initial turn is the best bit about that move, it's a marvellous turn, the run isn't anything special and is only helped by the woeful, child like defending. He shows a great turn and good pace in a straight line. :p

next season? this season is far from over yet!

spurs need to pull their socks up now. i believe we play mostly bottom teams now so if we don't put some points on the board, we don't deserve to be in the champions league.

newcastle fans seem to forget you were ahead of us for a fair while at the start of the season.

A tad strongly worded but he's right.

If that was Rooney I can only imagine the amount of epeen waving there would be going on in this thread :D it's not goal of the century but not many players can or will score a goal like that.

More importantly... 5 games left and Newcastle are fifth!!!!!!! HAWAY THE LADS!!!! :D

I fully agree that had Rooney made that run all the United fans would be touching each other over it, but it wouldn't have made the goal and run any better.

I'm ever more convinced that the Spurs player know that Harry is off at the end of the season. It's just too coincidental that they've lost their appetite since the day Fabio resigned and Harry's court case finished. Players such as Modric, Bale, VDV maybe know that that they'll be leaving with nothing to play for. I may seem slightly disgruntled but the whole affair stinks.

Tottenham have under achieved with 'Arry, I've said this for a while, that first eleven is really good. It's such a massive shame if they don't get a Champions League spot this season as I very much enjoyed them in Europe and think they're better this time round.

The whole England / media love affair with 'Arry has been disgusting for a number of reasons.

We were ahead of tottenham earlier on yes, but realistically no one would have thought we would be hanging around at this stage in the season..

a lot of people thought mid table at very best.

I knew we would be top10, I never thought we would still be in with a shout for top4 never.

But I still think after Man Utd/Man City/Arsenal/Tottenham/Chelsea and at the start of the season Liverpool we are better than the rest.

But now it seems Liverpool are out of that list

If Newcastle get top 4 then Pardew deserves to be named Manger of the Year imo, the job he's done has been nothing short of outstanding, not just the results on the pitch; taking a team that 2 years ago were in the Championship to the brink of the top 4 but replacing the big names of Nolan, Barton & Carroll with the unfanicied Ba, Cabaye and Ben Arfa have been some of the best moves in a transfer window over the past 18 months.

That said enjoy it while you can (if you do make top 4) because I have no doubt one of Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs or Arsenal (basically whoever doesn't make top 4 this season) will sort their act out next season.

What about the achievements of the managers in charge of Norwich and Swansea respectively? Remember Norwich have had back to back promotions.

I also think Kenny D deserves some praise for spending so much money and transforming Liverpool in to such an amazingly average football side, that takes a lot of ability and skill, also lets not forget his role in the Suarez incident! /troll face off :p

I think Pardew should be manager of the year whether its top4 or top6.

Him Lambert/Rodgers/Moyes and Wenger ...

Lambert and Rodgers obviously coming into the league first time and both potentially being top10.

Moyes for possibly finishing above Liverpool and we all know how he has gone about being at Everton for years always doing well with nowt.

Wenger for turning it around big time, looking like they will finish 3rd when they were wrote off constantly earlier on

You mean they don't operate in a realistic business world and will spend 100mill each to catch up with a team who barely spends 20? :D:p:D

why wouldn't you be in with a shout of top 4? you've got a lot of quality in your team and a deadly attack. still, on our day, spurs are a better team. we did put 5 past you for no reply but the wheels bounced off since then.

Yes, bitter or clueless :D

Arfa’s goal was very special yesterday. The cheeky back heel turn to dumbfound the opposing player leaving him on his ****, avoiding his last ditch foot stab at the ball, in turn creating loads of space, the turn of pace straight after, staying on his feet after having his heels clipped, more pace, then a sublime perfectly weighted pass/nudge and another turn of pace to take him past the remaining defenders before finishing calmly and confidently into the bottom left…amazing goal. So pleased I seen it in the flesh.

All done with pace, precision and pure technical ability...and it's not the first time he has done that either.
