Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 11th April 2012]

Which of our players want to leave? Please enlighten me.

I never once said we could hold onto a player that wanted out...Carroll for example.

Stop being so defensive, nobody is saying that all the players want to leave, we are saying there is a CHANCE that they might not all still be at the club by the end of the transfer window..

There is a very real chance that a big club like United might make a bid for one or more Newcastle players, and although the club may turn it down, many players would find it very difficult to not be tempted by the chance to play for such a well known club like United and may in the future want to leave.

Fat Sam almost brought financial ruin to the club, loading on heavy wages on past it players who offered next to nothing.

Erm care to enlighten me as to who these players Allardyce bought that you're referring to are? Last time I checked it was Souness that brought the likes of Boumsong , Luque & Owen to Newcastle far worse players than the ones Allardyce brought in who amongst were the likes of Enrique & Barton

I'm not actually being defensive at all. Only suggesting that our players are perfectly happy, then someone comes in with a stupid comment about keeping players wanting to leave.

No club can realistically keep a player who wants out and I never said anything of the sort.

If we werent relegated, which we deserved to be relegated lets be honest, we would have stayed in the league by fluke and who knows, could have continued mid table nothing ness, Shearer could have got the job and done wonders, or done nothing...

Being relegated we formed a togetherness at the club, Hughton got the job and instilled a more solid organised basis. Romped that league which give us huge belief we deserve to be in the top league and since then have got better, not worse.

These players might not want to leave, but if Man Utd came in for one of them with a big money offer you are telling me they wont leave...? Dont be daft

Yes contractually you can, but to keep them and make then happy again is unrealistic hence the need to sell once they want out.

Plus you are suggesting our players will suddenly want to leave just because a bid comes in for them which is utter ****.

More so to clubs that need it, we don't. And only if suitable replacements are lined up.

Ashley turned down offers of £30 million for Carroll before selling at £35 million and demanding all the money up front and it has now also been said he along with Pardew were the only ones who didn't actually want to sell him!

graham carr(top scout) has already said in an interview that newcastle have a figure in mind that they will accept(and will only accept that figure or above) for every player in the squad, they also have at least 3 replacments in line for every position if someone is sold, but will not corupt the squad buy over selling.
Every player in every Team has a price and every club is a selling club(ronoldo £80m,torres £50m fabregas £25m)im sure if barca came in for bale or modric for say £38m the spuds would take it or bale/modric would force it through.

The above players played a bit of football for Newcastle most of the below dint

Geremi 60k+ Smith 60k+ Joey Barton65k+ David Rozehnal, Habib Beye was decent. Mark Viduka massive wages was never fit. Cacapa big wages pile of **** that turned up to work in shorts and flip flops and got free physio

Ronaldo - Wanted out
Torres - Wanted out
Fabregas - Wanted out
Modric - Wanted out...except he stayed for a big pay increase.

I tihnk if someone offered obscene money for a player Cashley would take it as long as Carr/Pardew had a backup plan in regards to who to replace him with.

I respect the job Cashley has done but overall he is a businessman and if someone said "heres 30mill for Tiote" he would snap there hand off as he should and bring someone in for 5-10mill as a replacement.

Was listening to Paddy Barclay on the radio this morning and he made the valid point that almost all EPL clubs scouting networks are a disgrace and a shambles and most clubs "scout" by buying the flavour of the week or picking up the phone to an agent and asking him who is decent. He rightly said Newcastle are up there amongst the best scouting networks in Europe and Cashley/Pardew will use this to their advantage. If Tiote decides he wants to go and someone offers silly money Cashley will take the cash, bring someone as good in and we will be laughing off to the bank as we did with Carroll all over again.

I don't think any players will want to leave this summer, especially if we get Euro football but money does talk and if a player's head is turned we should sell and move on as we have been doing sucessfully.

Essentially my point as well. The managemenet are not stupid unlike the boards of most of the top 6 clubs (and top European clubs) who just hurl money at a problem without really looking at it.

people think the because we sold carroll we are now a selling club and will accept any bid by a so called bigger club.i would love to be a fly on the wall if chelsea phone up for tiote in the summer(del boy lambias "hello" chelsea "we want tiote and will give you £12m" del boy"**** off and come back when your offering £25m cash upfront "slams phone down )

Ashley sold Carroll with no backup plan, Best and Ameobi is not a backup plan :p

No I agree.

But when someone offers you insane money for an unproven striker and you are already staying up that year (by Jan we were in no real danger of going down without complete implosion) you take the silly mans money and rebuild in the summer, which we have done and look where we are now.

For how great our current players play for us, they might enjoy every second at the club as well... but if anyone thinks that will override a chance to move to a team like Man Utd or a big name in Europe then they obviously havent seen any transfers in recent years.

Im under no illusion that come the summer we will have to work as hard as we have done in the transfer market recently to keep hold of some players or possibly find some more gems

I doubt we can keep on finding gems though and some our these current players might get a bit too demanding

I agree but I can remember toon fans being miffed that no one had come in.

You can look back and laugh now though of course

Yes I agree, if a player wants out we should sell to the highest bidder. My point is that posters on here have stated plenty of clubs will be after our 'stars' and we will sell regardless.

It's utter ****, we will only sell when it suites us and will not bend over and be shafted AND not at the jeopardy of the team.

if you listen to graham carr's interview carroll demanded a transfer and newcastle were contacted by agents offering players but asking too much money because they knew we had a lot of money.I might be incorect but im sure carroll only played about 8 games for liverpool after the transfer so it wasnt that much of a loss

We didnt replace Carroll because we had no time..

However I think we got a bit lucky with how well Ba turned out, yes he did a good job at West Ham for a bit, but I dont think he was going to bag 16 premier league goals for nothing.

However Cisse has been a buy they knew he was going to do a good job, probably not as good job as he has done

Yep agree, but there was serious distrust between us and the regime and 18 months later as you say we can look back and laugh a bit. The club is frustratingly secretive about transfers now which has worked well and it has come to light that Cisse was Carrolls replacement and the ball had start rolling pretty much as soon as we got rid of the donkey.

They have my full backing now, some of the mistakes will never be forgotten but I can't fault them since the selling of Carroll.

I agree it would be tough but looking at the players, where they would/could go etc and what the clubs could offer them I am not massively worried and I do now have belief in Carr, Cashley and Pardew  They know well in advance who they want and will get them at the right price should someone agitate for a move and personally if someone wants out I would rather see them gone and watch them flop on a "bigger" stage (we all know who I am talking about) whilst we invest the money carefully and move on. It's a risky strategy but no more risky than overpaying to keep players and pandering to their egos as we did last time round before relegation.

I was miffed at the time and at the time Cashley was still public enemy number one hence the lack of faith. He seems to be doing things right so I can only have faith that they will continue to do things the correct way.
