Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 11th May 2015]

Very lucky win for United, it's going to funny seeing them in next years Champions League if they don't improve, particularly if they lose De Gea who was their MOTM again for me.

We pretty much have CL now but LvG has not convinced me massively this season at all.

Given the terrible state of the squad when he arrived, and the amount of injuries this season he hasn't done too badly (without considering Falcao and Di Maria being basically invisible most of the season)

Some of his sub and tactical choices have been confusing though

Dodged a few bullets there, but great result. The win is all that mattered, the quality of football is a mess but a full pre-season with a few new players should help improve that considerably.

I didn't expect miracles but tactically I'm not convinced by us and we should be playing with more attacking flair and intent. Without Carrick we are left with such a sluggish midfield that opponents just sit deep knowing that we will struggle to break them down.

This game was horrendous yet at times you could see massive amounts of space and good runs being ignored in favour of a 5-10 yard safety pass to a team mate in a pointless position. LvG is a disciplinarian and likes players to do what they are told but I fear that has meant that we play it too safe a lot of the time.

Young was in acres of space on the left so many times for the counter attack yet Blind would just faff and make the easy pass sideways. Fellaini was the same. By the time the ball got to Mata or Herrera they were either too deep because that was the only time they got the ball or Palace had so much time to get back that it was just a wall of players in front of them.

Like the best teams, we have played well by making teams scared to try and play too much because they will get punished. Carrick would ping the ball out to the wings where there was space and Young would attack the area. Moving the ball quickly allowed us to frighten teams and move them about the pitch.

From todays showing Fellaini, Blind and Valencia shouldn't be in the first team next season.

We badly need a DM to replace Carrick. AdM if he is not sold should be where Fellaini is.

It's incredible how valuable Fellaini has been to Man.U. this year.
Good for him in proving his doubters wrong.

manu really need to be worried next year, Liverpool will be on a charge signing the striker from the worst team in the league

The problem is that when he plays poorly he is trash. He has saved us a lot of points this year but we shouldn't be depending on him to score goals at the back post to save us agains the minnows of the league. He has been 10x better than last year but if you take away his goals he adds little to the team.

Don't disagree with any of that

I know how good Di Maria can be, I just don't think the PL is the league for him to show anywhere near his best. Would be happy never to see Fellaini in the squad at all - he (badly) missed as many chances as he puts away, as well as the stupid free kicks he gives away , and that isn't good enough for Utd

Desperate for at least one (leader) centre half and a top quality DM but also a decent striker (given the non-form of vP and Falcao)

Fellaini hasn't proven anything today or this season

He's the same player, Moyes was just too scared to use him in the only way he's any use.

I think Moyes was more scared to **** off RvP or Rooney.

The job was too big for him. The famous 101 crosses game against Fulham was because pundits and the press were talking about how Utd teams play with width etc.

Had he started lumping balls up to Fellaini and results not instantly improved he'd have been given dogs abuse so he bottled it.

Yeah he has, he's proved that he was worth his transfer fee.
I doubt Man.U. would be in the CL places if they didn't have the 'Kick it to the tall bloke' route.

As above - he has missed as many good chances (like today and vs Aston Villa to name two) , if not more, than he scores and with the stupid free kicks he gives away constantly along with having two left feet, he isn't worthy of a starting position, and barely of being in the squad at all.

The ONLY reason he is still at UTD is because of his height, and that definitely isn't a good enough reason to keep him

He's been your 2nd best player after the 'keeper.
There have been many times when he's been the complete focal point of how your team plays, he's been worth his height in gold for you this season.

Carrick, Young, Herrera even a lot of Rooney's selfless performances in midfield have made them all better players for the team than Fellaini who is ******* useless majority of the time

He hasn't. Young, Herrera, Mata and Rooney (since going back up front) have been much better than him this season. When the rest of the team plays well and he has time and space, Fellaini plays well. When he is required to effect the game himself he goes missing. He has missed a lot of chances that he should have scored as well.

I don't think he is worthless but he shouldn't be starting for us.

Hey, I'm not saying he's very good :p
Every time I've watched Man.U this season their game has been built around him so 2nd best player might be stretching it a bit, 2nd MVP might be more fitting?
When we played them the other week we apparently focused in training all week on how to nullify him and the crosses to him, that worked and he was ineffective. If he wasn't that important JM wouldn'thave built his plans around him.
Whatever, I don't think Man.U. would be 4th without him.
