Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 11th May 2015]

As someone else said I'm sure he wouldn't have got fourth this year without everyone else falling apart and the terrible inconsistency. If my club was in anyway a rival for the places united will be fighting for I'd be more than happy they got CL football so they keep hold of LVG. He's going to carry on spending and losing vast sums of money and still play terrible football. The money side doesn't matter united can afford it. FFP is geared up for them so getting fourth in coming years will only get easier.

With the spending power if United got a better manager they would dominate again for years, it's good for us all as neutrals if you keep LVG. Not Moyes/Martinez levels of terrible but next tier up ;)

Personally I can't wait for this dreadful season to be over :D

I think that's a harsh take on things, but time will tell. I have mixed feelings about LVG but I'm definitely more happy with him than not, mainly because we've (hopefully) reached our minimum target (helped by Liverpool being atrocious), but there have been flashes of good among the many poor performances. He needs more players that suit what he wants to do, if he fails with them then we'll be looking for a replacement.

It's all a bit like Chelsea last season, not particularly great, but after a good transfer window, massively improved. Hoping for the same sort of thing.

Your nothing like Chelsea last year though, they would have been champions if they hadn't thrown it away as they were nigh on 10 points clear in Feb/March after all.

Chelsea, Arsenal and yourselves are the only teams from last year that have performed to a similar standard with everyone else under performing, some marginally and others massively.

chelsea finished on 82 points and had to deal with europe.

Not necessarily, after us beating you at anfield you have dropped a further 8 out of fifteen points available ( or 11 out of 18 Inc vs us), apply that to last season and top four wouldnt have been so comfortable

lol you are suggesting this years united would have taken 6 points off last years liverpool?

lol get the tank as wayne would say

err no this years united wouldnt finish ahead of last years everton nevermind liverpool, like i said LVG would not have got you top 4 last year
and this season Moyes probably would have you close to this points total

A speculative argument built on blinded opinion. Yay

All factors being the same, my opinion is he wouldnt have got us anywhere near it. Nor would he have had either the dressing room to do it or the technical or tactical ability to do it either.

It's clear that LVG has a game plan. Whether he has the players and depth of squad to execute it is a different matter. When you watch how they snuffed out Liverpool at Anfield for 90 minutes it was through better tactics. Moyes would not be able to do that.

Oh and lets add to the fact that Moyes had nowhere near as many injuries in a post world cup year as LVG has had.

If we qualify for CL next season, I expect progress to be made towards a strong league run. First place I think is still out of reach depending on how Chelsea strengthen.

and moyes had nowhere near asmuch money backing his bid either:rolleyes:

I actually believe falcao would have done better under moyes as you were cross monkeys last season.

yes he did have the money

He didnt have the pull to attract the players. Fellaini had a buy out clause yet we paid over to attract him on the final day of the transfer window.

Too much fannying around to sign Thiago Alcantra. A deal in the bag, messed up and he went to Bayern

Edit, Toni Kroos apparently scouted over 15 times. Not being funny if you don't know if a player can do a job after seeing them 10 times then hes probably the wrong player.

He didnt get the name Dithering Dave for nothing

Your tactics after Stevie GBH got sent off were appalling, first half though was perfect for what you came up against.

But it's the same sort of situation, it hasn't been a disaster and it's clear what needs to be improved.

You could simplify it to the extent that with Carrick we look like we can beat anyone (lately)...

Chelsea
13 Courtois
02 Ivanovic
05 Zouma
26 Terry
03 Filipe Luis
12 Mikel
36 Loftus-Cheek
22 Willian
04 Fàbregas
10 Hazard
18 Remy

Liverpool
22 Mignolet
23 Can
37 Skrtel
06 Lovren
02 Johnson
14 Henderson
08 Gerrard
10 Coutinho
31 Sterling
09 Lambert
20 Lallana

Chelsea were well in with a shout of winning the league last season, in fact with a couple of months of the season to go they were favourites to do so. Utd have never been in contention this season.

Furthermore, you could look at Chelsea's squad/side and see that there wasn't a whole lot that needed doing. They needed a bit more creativity in midfield and a goalscorer, and they went out and bought 2 ready made players to give them that.

I think there's a lot more question marks over Utd's side/squad. I don't think many of Utd's side are long term answers if Utd want to challenge at the very top in terms of winning Leagues and CL's. Nobody knows whether De Gea's staying, there's question marks over the fitness and ability of most if not all your defence, Carrick's age & fitness, will Di Maria still be at Utd, Fellaini and maybe even Mata's suitability long term, fitness & form of RvP/Falcao.
